Unlikely that he'll be back in San Diego, and the Braves are talking with him. Lemme know what you think or what you've heard.

Re: Hoffman??????
I'd like to see the Orioles sign him as a 1 year stopgap for Chris Ray, but apparently they've shown no interest. I can see him going to Atlanta or especially the Phillies now that Wagner is gone. -
Re: Hoffman??????
I think the Braves will make a push for him now and get him signed. Have been a lot of rumblings that they've already had some serious discussions and that the Braves wanted to bring him in...now that the Mets have Wagner, the Braves must do something to sure up the pen and Hoffman is the best available option.Patrick Mahomes > GodComment

Re: Hoffman??????
I just read a report that was put up overnight by Ken Rosenthal on this:
As teams scramble to sign the remaining free-agent closers, Indians general manager Mark Shapiro is flying to San Diego this week to meet with potential Hall of Famer Trevor Hoffman, FOXSports.com has learned.
The Indians, shut out in their attempt to sign B.J. Ryan, view Hoffman as a potential replacement for free agent Bob Wickman. The team also needs to replace setup man Bob Howry, who signed a three-year, $12 million free-agent contract with the Cubs.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Hoffman??????
2 years for 10 mil? That isn't going to cut it. Hoffman is looking for a lucrative contract and given his age, it's way too much... and with the money other closers have been signed to, I won't be surprised if Hoffman's agent ups the bar for his client over the proposed 10 mil a year mentioned weeks ago.
But the Padres have to keep him, it'd be stupid since it's known that they won't resign Hernandez and Giles looks to be on his way out.Comment

Re: Hoffman??????
I want him to come to the Braves. We need his presence in the bullpen. Hoffman could be one of the more underrated players in history.Comment

It's really disappointing to read about Giles, Hernandez, and Hoffman all leaving due to money when the main reason Petco Park was built was so the Padres could not only be more competitive financially, but also keep and sign players that they need. I've yet to see that.Comment

Re: Hoffman??????
SD offered Hoffman 6m I believe it was over dinner and he got up and walked out of the restaurant when they offered it to him lol...no way he's signing for 5m a year. It looks like Farnsworth is on his way to the Bronx so I gotta believe that the Braves are gonna focus their attention on Hoffman now, be interesting to see over the next several days.Patrick Mahomes > GodComment

Re: Hoffman??????
Where'd you hear that from? The Padres never had a dinner with Hoffman.
They proposed a 2 year/10 million dollar contract to him, but he refused it. I don't remember hearing about any Hoffman storming out of a place. If that did happen it would be all over in San Diego and Hoffman would look like the bad guy instead of the guy who people see as a victim to 1) Moores "fiscally responsible" theme or 2) Sandy Alderson and his dislike for signing people to hefty contracts.Comment

TREVOR HOFFMAN RUMBLINGS
When a future Hall of Famer spends 12 years with the same team, it always seems surreal to think of him trying on someone else's cap. But in the next few weeks, one of the great closers of all time, Trevor Hoffman, is going to become an ex-Padre -- unless the Padres reverse their negotiating course in a hurry.
Hoffman stomped out of a dinner with GM Kevin Towers and CEO Sandy Alderson a couple of weeks ago -- without even tasting the croutons on the house salad. So we're taking that as a sign the Padres' two-year, $10-million offer had ruined both his appetite and his offseason.
"I think the Padres are 100 percent convinced he won't leave, no matter what," one of Hoffman's agents, Jeff Borris, says. "But if that's what they think, they have seriously misgauged the situation."Comment

Originally posted by Rag3vsW0rldFair deal IMO, but I see no reason why the Padres cannot raise up their offer to something not exactly which Hoffman wants, but close to hit. There's no doubt in my mind Hoffman wants to stay here in San Diego, but he has to get his pay for what he has done in his career.
It's really disappointing to read about Giles, Hernandez, and Hoffman all leaving due to money when the main reason Petco Park was built was so the Padres could not only be more competitive financially, but also keep and sign players that they need. I've yet to see that.
There is no reason to up the offer to Hoffy who has a flat 88mph fastball and weaking changeup. Hes not a dominate closer anymore. Padres have a more capable closer in Linebrink.
Giles- He can take is whining self out of SD for all i care. He plays like hes a typical leadoff hitter. I could careless about the ball park he can still hit.
As for Hernandez I wouldn't mind him back but, Olivo is fine. He managed the Padres staff better then Hernandez. Olivo batted better and the pitching staffs ERA was lower then when Hernandez caught. Olivo will continue to get better and prove doubters wrong.
