    Re: Hoffman??????

Hmm... I never caught that story, thanks.

There is no reason to up the offer to Hoffy who has a flat 88mph fastball and weaking changeup. Hes not a dominate closer anymore. Padres have a more capable closer in Linebrink.

Giles- He can take is whining self out of SD for all i care. He plays like hes a typical leadoff hitter. I could careless about the ball park he can still hit.

As for Hernandez I wouldn't mind him back but, Olivo is fine. He managed the Padres staff better then Hernandez. Olivo batted better and the pitching staffs ERA was lower then when Hernandez caught. Olivo will continue to get better and prove doubters wrong.
If I recall, Hoffman was throwing slower fastballs a couple of years before his surgery in 2003. And if I recall, no one could close worth a damn that year until the Padres got lucky with Rod Beck. If saving 43 games out of 45 attempts isn't dominating, which is his best season since 1998, then I don't what is. I personally don't think Linebrink is capable of closing games. Sure he's been a great set up man, but just because he throws 95 mph doesn't make a him capable enough.

It's just stupid, the bullpen was our strongest point on the team and it's already heading into the direction of ****. Losing Hammonds is already a given, for he looks for a new team each year. Seanez isn't signed and people are ready to see Hoffman leave. Who does that leave us with? Hensley? He's probably starting? Aki? He was mediocre last season. And Linebrink...

Who are we going to have to set up Linebrink?

Now on the topic of Giles. Who said he was whining? May I quote a Padres pitcher? "If it weren't for Giles, we would not score at all this season." Giles sure had a lot of walks and he didn't have a high total in home runs, but you need to remember that NO ONE was scared of whoever was batting behind Giles so wouldn't it make sense to just pitch around him? Yeah, he can leave if the Padres aren't going to address the offense.

As for Hernandez, I don't think he's coming back. I have no explanation why, but that's what I think.

There's one last thing I want to say... if the Padres lose all three free agents, it'd be the worst thing that this franchise can do (It would be up there with the Giles and Lankford trades). Not only do you lose two well known players on the team, but it sends a bad message to the fans. What's even worse is... who is going to replace them? Giles? Burnitz? Jones? Those players don't come close to Giles. With the money saved from not resigning anyone, the Padres will most likely spend it on the Darrell May's, Woody William's and Jeff Cirillo's of the world.

Whatever, this team is already slated for a laughable 2006 season.
