What's the status on the possible Mench trade? I think I heard the Jays would ship Batista to Texas if need be. I also heard something that I personally would be sad if it happens. A guy on the FAN was saying that we shouldn't be surprised if David Bush were to be traded. I know we have a lot of deph at the starting pitching spot but i'd really hate to see the guy go.

JP has denied the Mench rumours.
I'd like to see Dave stay. He's up and down, but he reminds me a bit of Towers. I think he can end up a lot like Josh if given some time.Comment

Re: Get ready to welcome Giles to the Jays
Bush's stock dropped big time last season. He would have one great start and then follow it with a real stinker. Gibby also had him on a short leash and got sent down to AAA at one point.
I would move him to the pen. He was a closer in college before the Jays converted him into a starter.
I think there's a chance he will be dealt. Bush is going to have a hard time landing a starting rotation spot next season and beyond. Within the next year the Jays have McGowan, Shawn Marcum, Josh Banks, Zach Jackson, and maybe even David Purcey knocking on the door for a starting spot.
According to Doug Melvin, he said JP told him McGowan was untouchable. I think Overbay for McGowan isn't actually that bad of a idea but it would be a gamble. IMO McGowan is the only Jays pitching prospect that has a chance to become an ace. But he's coming of TJ surgery and he was brutal as a starter last season with the Jays. Overbay would be an improvement over Hinske but he's in the same range as Hillenbrand. The Jays need to do much better than a guy that's going to get 15-20 HR's and slug .450Comment

Re: Get ready to welcome Giles to the Jays
Dont put too much stock on a O-Dog for Dunn trade because it will never happen. Wilner just floated that out there on the FAN.
If a trade like that goes down, that would be one of the most lop-sided deals in baseball history.
A package of O-Dog, McGowan, and Purcey might get the Reds to consider a deal although I still think that's not enough.Comment

Doesn't Dunn have a history of injuries? or is that Kearns?
Either way as a guy that believes defense up the middle is important I wouldn't be so willing to trade O-Dogg unless there's a trade offer that knocks my socks off.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

And don't be surprised to see Hudson go. I'd rather see Aaron Hill at second and have another power bat in the lineup, then Hill DH'ing, and Mr. .320 OPB playing 2B. At the moment, while gold glove D is nice, the Jays need to get some power.Blue Jays, Blackhawks, AuburnComment

Re: Get ready to welcome Giles to the Jays
I seriously doubt Dunn can be acquired without trading Wells. If the trade was offered to me, I'd take it in a heartbeat. Dunn is the better offensive player and is younger. I believe he's arby eligible soon though.
But as AF said, Hudson alone will not get us Dunn.Comment

Re: Get ready to welcome Giles to the Jays
Giles is going back to San Diego. Kinda funny, no one gave them a chance to re-sign him.
Put this one under asianflow's resume (anyone else remember that "Since the Yankees are going to the World Series...topic in 2004?!).Comment

Don't shoot the messenger........
It was looking like Giles was heading to Toronto until the Padres came in and upped their original offer.Comment
