Looks like the Pirates have interest. I doubt they end up getting him, but it looks like they might try.

It couldn't hurt to put him at 3B. If he stayed healthy, he'd certainly put up better numbers than Sanchez/Mackowiak combined.

That would be a huge surprise if they landed Nomar. I doubt it happens but it would send a good message for Pirates fans. (I may not be a fan but I wish good luck for the team and fans.)

I was about to create a new thread for this rumor, but since there's one about Nomar already, I might as well use this one.

The Padres could be sending Loretta to Boston for David Wells and then sign Nomar Garciaparra to play second base.

It's not a bench role its a utility role where he would play everyday just at different positions. I would think Nomar would rather just play one position and he can get that other places. I guess it matters how much Nomar values winning.

Yeah, Nomar said he'd be willing to play almost any position. That means we could plug him in at CF.

As much as I would dislike it, signing Nomar to play second could pave the way to move Cano for Willis or Pierre.

you think an average 2nd baseman who wont be that good in his career can get you a cy young candidate?

No, I didn't mean only Cano. I just meant Cano would be gone regardless, and would need a 2B to fill the void.
