    Sean Casey coming to Pittsburgh?

Looks like DL is going to bring Sean Casey home to play 1st base for the Bucs.

    From Rotoworld:

The Pirates are close to acquiring first baseman Sean Casey from the Reds for left-hander Dave Williams, FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports.
If this goes down, then it's safe to assume the reports of the Red Sox offering Bronson Arroyo and/or Kevin Youkilis were false. As we figured anyway. Casey is making $8.5 million next year, so Williams, a bottom-of-the-rotation lefty, is about what he's worth.

    Few thoughts:

What does this mean for Eldred? His strikezone judgement is terrible, but he's a 35+ HR hitter waiting to happen. With Casey here, there's no room for Eldred right now.

Casey might provide more power with that short RF porch at PNC Park. I've always liked him so I hope he does well.

EDIT - Casey has always hit well at PNC. He has a lifetime .976 OPS here.

I'm trying to dig up Caseys stats at PNC over his career. It seems he always hits extremely well here, and that porch in right is made for him.

As for Eldred I think DL said that he really wanted him to start in AAA this year and thats fine by me. He made huge jumps up the organization last year and some time in AAA can only help. For the future though I don't know what he's going to do.

EDIT: Your too quick with the stats. I barely got a chance to look.

That will be very strange not seeing Casey in a Reds uni.

I agree that Eldred needs to stay in AAA for atleast 1/2 the year this year. He's got tons of power, but just terrible strikezone judgement. He'll really need to work on that.

It looks like Casey is signed through next year as well. That's puzzling since I thought Eldred would be the starter by then.

I have a feeling Craig Wilson will be traded as well.

There were some Mark Redman rumors floating around earlier.

            To BOS for Trot Nixon
            To PHI for Jason Micheals

If any of those go through I don't see any reason to keep Craig.

And I'd do either in a heartbeat. I'm just tired of Mark Redman. I'd trade him for a bag of sunflower seeds.

The thing I like about Casey is that the Pirates don't have a hitter like him. A guy who drives the ball into the gap and doesn't K much. This could provide some nice protection for Jason Bay (or put Casey in front of Bay and sign another guy behind him).

There was a good point brought up on some other board that Redman will probably be traded just to even out the salary we'll be taking on with Casey. I hope Mark isn't looking to buy a house in the Pittsburgh area...

Anyways, I'm with you I like it. It's not a franchise altering move, but considering we gave up only Dave Williams (who I though was impressive for most of last year) to get a good fit like Casey

EDIT: I just scrolled down the page and it looks like a Jack Bauer bonaza.

Yeah I'm hearing a ton of rumors so I'll throw some others out there. I already mentioned that I've heard Craig is being shopped by DL and being shopped hard. I've also heard the Pirates have interest in Milton Bradley and Olmedo Saenz. Both former Dodgers who love Jim Tracy. Then there's the rumors you mentioned above.

I've always been a Sean Casey fan. I think he'll be good for this team. The Pirates need more "rah rah" guys instead of the same old "We're the Pirates, we're going to lose" types. He should be a great influence for the young guys.

LOL. I saw your Jack Bauer avatar and I knew it was time to put one up. Plus the Jack Lambert avatar I had wasn't working out so well for the Steelers. They've lost ever since I put it up.

That's a good deal for the Buccos getting a guy who has always hit well in PNC. As for the trade rumours i'd also make them in a heartbeat. It's nice to see the Pirates try to do something to better the franchise.

                      What a sad day.

So, Reds GM Dan O'Brien would rather take Williams than be involved with that three team rumor that was going around involving Bronson Arroyo coming to the Reds? Makes sense. [/sarcasm] This guy needs to go.

I saw/heard a little bit about Milton Bradely too. He sure would bring a nice bat to the lineup, and as long as Tracy can keep some kind of control over him I'd love to see him a Pirate.

On the other hand, people who I thought I'd never have to see in uniform again Josh Fogg and Ty Wigginton might be coming back. DL said that he's going tender offers to all of the eligible Pirates. I think we passed the time to cut bait with some of these guys.

Didn't he have problems with Tracy tho? or was it just him and Jeff Kent?

I heard those rumors and I'm not sure they had a lot of validity. It just didn't make a ton of sense to me.

Dave Williams is actually a decent LH starter. He was expendable because the Pirates have 3-4 guys exactly like him, but better (Duke, Maholm, Burnett, Gorzellanny and Redman).

At least this means Dunn won't move for you guys and Larue can possibly be re-signed since this frees up some $$$.

                              Just him and Kent.

From what I read in PGH papers, Tracy said he's never had any problems with Milton and Milton calls Tracy "My Guy".
