Re: Pierre traded to the Cubs

I sort of have mixed feelings about the deal.

Great job by Hendry getting the lead off man that we needed badly. The Dodgers overpaid for Furcal IMO. I am a little concerned about his drop off in production in the second half of '05 and his weak arm in center. Our defense in the outfield right now has me scared to death. Murton in LF, Pierre in CF, and who knows in right. Yes. I would rather have Pierre everyday over Corey, but this certainly doesn't put the Cubs "over the top". We still need another guy that's going to hit 20-25 with 85 RBI's.....that won't strike out 140 times a year. Without that count on another 80-85 win season.

What I don't understand is "why are we not in the ring trying to get Manny Ramirez?" What about Renteria now that he's available?

Its pretty well known, that Ronny Cedeno is gonna play 2B or SS whichever postion the CUBS don't address and Nefi Perez being the back-up at both positions.

The score 670 said that the Cubs are also interested in adding Austin Kearns via a trade for RF which I'm all for, I think once he gets healthy he's an all-star.

I would send our entire farm system for Manny and Renteria. Hell, give them Dusty too!

Where have you been the past decade? Its because the Cubs must have at least 1 position that they have not sought out for before the season begins.

            Pierre
            Murton
            Lee
            Ramirez
            Bradley?
            Barrett
            Walker
            Cedeno

I could see the Cubs with that lineup on opening day. I guess you could flip-flop Murton and Walker either way.

              Isn't Walker a FA?

I believe the Cubs pick up their option on him. So,no he isn't a free agent.

                    I would go with,
                    Pierre LF
                    Cedeno 2B or SS
                    Lee 1B
                    Ramirez 3B
                    Bradley RF
                    Barrett C
                    Patterson CF
                    SS ?

Can't get rid of Patterson and Burnitz power and replace them with Murton; Walker would likely traded to acquire Bradley; Middle infield looks like their biggest weakness if they trade Walker.

I can guarantee you that Miguel Cabrera will be in the lineup," new Marlins manager Joe Girardi said. "Other than that, there aren't a whole lot of guarantees.

I would like to see the Cubs land Soriano from texas even if it costs the Kerry Wood.

Why would you want Korey Patterson in the lineup if you don't need him to be? His defense is good, but Pierre is more than capable in CF. Murton will have more power than Patterson over a full season, I guarantee you. Patterson struggles to make contact with the ball, let alone hitting 15-20 HR's. If Walker is traded for Bradley, then expect the Cubs either A.) To try to get someone for a reasonable price via trade or B.) Put Neifi at 2B, which is much more likely with the way things are looking right now.

How about the Cubs trying to get Izturis in the trade for Bradley? Very unlikely, but it would be a fix for their MIF woes.

If the Rangers were willing to work out a trade like that, I would be a very happy man.

Are you kidding? Kearns is a joke. 200 k's a year and declining power numbers, not to mention injury prone. yuck.
