I would love for the Cubs to get Julio Lugo from Tampa. Seems unlikely if this Red Sox deal goes through, but that would be a nice 1-2 at the top with tons of speed. Something that wins in Wrigley. When will any of the Tribune dopes get that through their head. That would mean Huff would likely come too so that would be our other outfielder. Milton is the other option I guess. Perfect for that scum Dusty.

Why would you want Korey Patterson in the lineup if you don't need him to be? His defense is good, but Pierre is more than capable in CF. Murton will have more power than Patterson over a full season, I guarantee you. Patterson struggles to make contact with the ball, let alone hitting 15-20 HR's. If Walker is traded for Bradley, then expect the Cubs either A.) To try to get someone for a reasonable price via trade or B.) Put Neifi at 2B, which is much more likely with the way things are looking right now.

How about the Cubs trying to get Izturis in the trade for Bradley? Very unlikely, but it would be a fix for their MIF woes.

And last if the Cubs have Neifi Perez as everyday player, then the Cubs offseason would have been a disappointment.

First of all Pierre is nowhere near as good as Corey is defensively
,when has Murton ever prove he could hit 15-20Hrs he mostlty a Doubles hitter.
And last if the Cubs have Neifi Perez as everyday player, then the Cubs offseason would have been a disappointment.

If Cubs had gotten a guy like Furcal or Soriano to add to the infield I would have no problem letting Patterson play center, move Pierre to right.

As much as I hate Patterson hes one of the best centerfielders in the game defensively.

This is what Ive been saying. If you hang your hat on pitching is makes absolutely no sense to have such a weak defense up the middle and slow, plodding players in general who have no chance of winning if the wind is blowing in. Its funny how people forget what Lofton contributed in 2003. I also agree that Patterson is very good in the OF but is too much of a liability at the plate considering there are other good CFs and the Cubs have prospects to trade. The Cubs need versatility in their lineup, not more power.

I am not looking forward to the Cubs departing with Patterson. You don't find many guys with his skills in the field. His range and arm are going to save many runs a year. Eventually his hitting is going to come back, its got to. He was the horse that carried the Cubs in the first half of '03. Now lets say the Cubs get Bradley. Think of the defense carried in that OF. Few balls are going into the gap against these guys. All have good to great range. Pierre would be the only below average arm. Anyways, maybe I relish defense too much. Cubs, please keep Corey!

The worst every day player in baseball last year, not even close. An overhyped bum if I've ever seen one. Trade him somewhere. I dont care if he becomes good elsewhere. He has proven he will not be good here. And to the people who point to the 1st half of 2003, he was hitting .330 and started to nosedive down to the .298 he ended up with when he got hurt. His overall history would argue that he would have hit at best .250 that year. And they would never have made the playoffs without KL.

And "good bat in RF" is a good situational hitter...it doesnt matter if they hit 33 HRs or 3HR as long as they can hit a single with 2 outs and a runner at second. This is what Burnitz and Sosa were miserable at.

I think Murton is gonna give us Mark Grace type numbers with alittle more pop. .290/20/85 I'd be cool with that.

Sorry if this is a repeat, but I couldn't look through the entire thread...

I must give attention to the pessimist in me, as it is prevalent...
We traded away Dontrelle Willis to the Marlins. Now we have traded three really good pitchers. We still have several within the organization, but I think Mitre had the potential to be a 12-15 game winner, even if over his head. Pinto was really popular, and Nolasco is, as mentioned, a potential star, if immature.

The biggest problem with this is that our SP depth is lackluster...as is their durability.
Wood, enough said. Prior, .... Maddux, a great, but he is almost a senior citizen Rusch?


I am very happy to have PIERRE. I like him alot as a player. I loved how LOFTON was for us a few years ago, and OF COURSE, having men on base is a great benefit...
I think, though, we could have had him for much less...
God, the Marlins farm system is like a freakin artillery brigade, all those arms...
