Re: A's & Phils rumor: Abreu,Lieberthal,Floyd for Zito/Kendall
Wow it looks like Billy Beane is once again ripping a team a new one in a trade. I mean giving away one of the top RF's in the game and a potential top of the line starter for Zito. Even though Zito is my favorite player and is a good pitcher the Phillies are giving up way to much for a guy that seems like much of the league has figured out and a veteran catcher."The academic support at Ohio State, there is no way you can fail. Even if you're giving minimal effort there is no way you can fail."

This would be a horrible trade for the Phillies, yet every fan I've talked to here wants to do it. Although in the rumor I heard, it was the Phillies including David Bell instead of Gavin Floyd. That would have been slightly better; this is just terrible.Comment

Originally posted by zitomulderYeah Bell would be the better option. It seems to me that the Phillies are just trying anything to catch up to the Mets this offseason. If that means tremedously over valuing Barry Zito a guy who might not even be there in 2007 thats what their going to do. I bet Billy Beane is foaming at the mouth at this deal especially if it involves Floyd.
Either way, the Phillies are getting completely massacred in either deal.Comment

Ed Wade is gone, and I expect the mediocre deal making to leave with him.. Until something happens, these rumors are nothing more than that, and I like the post-Wade moves the Phillies have made so far.Enjoy football? Enjoy Goal Line Blitz!Comment

Unless the Phillies are paying a significant amount of money in this trade it will never happen.
Zito and Kendall combine for over $16 million, Abreu and Lieberthal combine for over $22 million and throwing Bell in the deal instead of Floyd combine the three for over $28 million, the A's would never take on all that salary unless the Phils foot some of the bill.Comment

Re: A's & Phils rumor: Abreu,Lieberthal,Floyd for Zito/Kendall
I would do this deal so fast.
Zito would be much better over in the National League and Kendall is WAY better than Lieberthal.
The only people who love Abreu are the stat geeks. Unless you live in this city and have actually watched the guy play, you just do not know how lackadaisical Abreu is. No urgency in his game, whatsoever. And his Gold Glove award is a total sham, because he is one of the worst defending outfielders in baseball. Nobody can throw any stat or say anything that can tell me otherwise about the guy. He does not help your team win when it's time to turn it up for the late playoff run.
As for Floyd, I don't want to give up on him. But nobody knows how he will turn out and the Phils are trying to win now. And he really has looked like he lost a swagger to his game. Like he lost something.Comment

Kendall's problem is he commands 10 MIL per year for a singles hitter. He had 0 HR's last year and has never hit many throughout his career. He's also a slightly above average defensive catcher IMO. Even when he was with the Pirates I thought he was overrated.Comment

Floyd's a RHP; you might be thinking of Cole Hamels.Comment
