Chi-Sox close to acquiring Javier Vazquez
The World Series champion Chicago White Sox are on the verge of acquiring starting pitcher Javier Vazquez from Arizona for pitcher Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez, a minor-league outfielder expected to be Chris Young and another pitcher, believed to be a reliever, according to CBS SportsLine.com sources.Tags: None -
Re: Chi-Sox close to acquiring Javier Vazquez
He certainly is not, but I'd trade Hernandez for him anyday as Vazquez will at least be able to give you 30 starts and 200 innings of work, though I'm surprised they aren't making any room for McCarthy in their rotation.Comment

Re: Chi-Sox close to acquiring Javier Vazquez
This makes our bullpen so much stronger, if this trade happens. I don't like that they're giving up Chris Young, but we have enough outfielders to last us for the next 5 years. Maybe 10..
As for Vazquez, I really think Don can help his mechanics. You know Ozzie wouldn't give up El Duke for a washed up pitcher. Just look what he did to Contreras. As well as El Duke, if it werent for injuries. But as long as he can give us a good 30 starts, with at least 6-7+ innings, it should turn out to be a great trade. Also, if he does somewhat flop as a starter, we could always use him as a long relief, and move Cotts to the lefty setup man along with Polite.
We'll see what happens...Comment

He couldn't handle NY and he played for a bad Diamondbacks team... I still think he could make a dominant difference going to an already good team in Chicago...

Another ex-Yank for the White Sox. The last one worked out pretty well and did something he could never do in NY, but I don't think Vasquez can be the kind of pitcher Contreras is.NBA: New York Knicks

Re: Chi-Sox close to acquiring Javier Vazquez
There are now reports that the White Sox are trying to get into the Tejada race. Looks like they are offering Urbie, a prospect and possibily Jon Garland. On the Oriloes board they want McCarthy in the deal. I'm thinking that might be the hold up. I wouldn't be so quick to trade McCarthy myself. But to get a player like Tejada might be worth it. Don't know. We'll see what happens.I have more respect for a man who let's me know where he stands, even if he's wrong. I like this deal only if they move Garland in that Tejada deal, or get McCarthy in the rotation some other way. I really think this guy has what it takes and hopefully he'll get the opportunity to show it. This reminds me of Rowand when he had the starting CF job going into spring training and then the Sox got Lofton during Soxfest. And it just pused Rowand back a couple more years before he finally got his chance.Comment
