Don't know. We'll see what happens.
Links to the report? I would love this trade to happen, but I feel as if this is just what it is... rumors. I wouldnt like giving up 2 pitchers, especially if one is McCarthy and the other is Garland. Garland is ok, but McCarthy has too much upside in his future.

Bruce Levine on ESPN-1000 reported the rumors of this trade. And they weren't asking for Garland and McCarthy. Kenny Williams is a gambler but he ain't stupid. They wanted McCarthy as the pitcher instead of Garland. If I was the O's I would have asked for the same thing.

I'm not sure what to make of this whole offseason. I understand Kenny likes to wheel and deal, but the thing that made this team so special last year was team chemistry. I just think if Kenny screws with it too much it is gonna back fire on him...and all of us. I just think these are high risk, high reward type of moves. No one knows if Thome is healthy, I hope he is, but if he isn't then to trade away one of the best defensive CF's in the game (I know a bold statement, but if you disagree, then you obviosly don't watch the Sox on a day-to-day basis, how Torii Hunter can win a gold glove when not playing the last half of the season is beyond me, but I'll save that rant for another time...). Also, Javier did not pitch that well last year, although he might fit well with Cooper as a pitching coach. With 6 pitchers on the staff, another move is probably in the works. I've also heard of Garland/Crede for Blalock. I hadn't heard of the Tejada deal, but I would definetly prefer that one over Blalock if it is Garland instead of McCarthy moved.

Team Chemistry is a plus for any team, but you have to look at the players the Sox and K-Dub is trading for. Thome is a great person to have in the clubhouse, alot of people look to him for leadership and he provides it. He also brings in that Veteran that we need. Did you also hear how excited Konerko was to aquiring Thome? He said that was the #1 reason why he resigned with Chicago.

The other 2 players are both role-players. They're not going to complain about playing time, or more innings to pitch. And if they do, I'm pretty sure Ozzie will show them the doors. We might have a conflict with our rotation, but given the chance that somebody, such as a Garland or a Contreras doesnt show the same stuff they showed last year, we have a quality backup in McCarthy.

As for Thome being healthy, just remember what everybody said about Jermaine Dye last year. And then look at how many games he played this year. Crazy aint it?

Yeah, I understand all that. I'm just saying why screw with a good thing, you know. If the moves work then there is no question the Sox got better during the offseason. Didn't know that about Konerko either, being at school I don't get to read the Tribune everyday like I do at home... Like I said, to go along with the rumors, I think that we will make another move shipping either McCarthy or Garland off. I would be happy if we didn't though because that would mean that McCarthy could step up if someone struggles or gets hurt.

I understand where your coming from too. I know the saying, "if it aint broke, dont fix it"

But the thing is, you look at the teams in MLB. Almost every team (Except for the Marlins ) are doing their best to get better. We have to match what their doing. We have to make whatever made us weak last year, stronger.

We were weak in the middle of our rotation with:

              Dye
              Konerko
              Rowand
              Everett

Now we added more power with Thome.

              Thome
              Konerko
              Dye

Which means, Konerko and Dye will see more quality pitches simply becuase of the intimidation factor Thome puts in our lineup.

Heres an article that is a great read about what Thome brings to the clubhouse:

We got rid of both Vizcaino and Marte, both were horrible last year. Marte started off well, but then plummeted, and also became a cancer to the bullpen.

As for the rumors, well until you see something official, thats all that they are.... Rumors. So just keep your head up fella Sox fan, I think we'll be just fine next year!
