Hmm now i'm not going to say Glaus will do this but the last Xmas gift the Jays got they ended up winning the world series.

Seriously though, are we trying to become the Atlanta Hawks of basketball. Stockpiling on corner infielders like they stockpile on swingmen???

At least the Hawks are better than the Raptors

Anyhow, if Glaus doesn't waive his no-trade clause, I pray there's a freak snowstorm in Arizona in the next few days.

If Glaus goes to Toronto, this could greatly impact the Sox in their efforts to trade Manny if they don't have a right-handed power option to go after. At this stage, Boston's probably looking 2-3 deals down the line, and this could take a lot of scenarios out of play.

Good for JP if Glaus says yes. Two filthy power arms and 40+ homers...Merry Christmas Blue Jays fans.

              Glaus not in Jays plans

Despite a flurry of rumours originating from U.S. media outlets, Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi insisted on Thursday night that Arizona Diamondbacks slugger Troy Glaus was not coming to Toronto.

"We had interest in him at one time, but nothing's going to happen with that now," Ricciardi said of the long time third baseman, who clubbed 37 homers last season and was MVP of the 2002 World Series for the Anaheim Angels. "It's not going to happen with us."

A report that Toronto was prepared to send second baseman Orlando Hudson and pitcher Miguel Batista to the D-Backs for Glaus and another player first surfaced yesterday in an online column written for Fox Sports. Soon after, ESPN baseball columnist Peter Gammons mentioned online that the Jays and D-Backs were close to a deal.

Ricciardi said an assistant telephoned him last night and read the Fox report to him. But he dismissed its contents, saying the Jays were not going to be a part of any Glaus deal. ......

If Ricciardi speaks the truth, I wonder what Byrnes wants from his old team to give up Glaus? If the Jays had the best package, which they probably did, maybe we can get him for a little less...

                  Interesting........

MLB Radio has reported the Jays and D'Backs will strike a deal tomorrow involving Glaus and another hitter on the DBack roster to be dealt for Miguel Batista, Orlando Hudson and Brand League. The only thing that is holding this up is Glaus' no trade clause.

Yeah, but it might have been from last night (the report)....is MLB Radio still reporting this? Because if they are, then this could get interesting.

I hope we don't get him. Glaus is horrible. He's like a glorified Doug Mirabelli, he won't get many hits, but when he does they'll be doubles and homeruns. He'll also attempt to surpass Bellhorn's single season strikeout record in a Red Sox uniform.

He'd strike out a lot, but he could hit 50 homers playing at Fenway. More importantly, if Manny were dealt, he'd keep the lineup balanced and protect Ortiz, which should be the first concern in trading Ramirez. If, and only if Manny was traded for someone other than Tejada, I'd be very interested to see if we could acquire him. Especially if that means we could pursue a guy like Mark Prior and not feel like it would kill the offense.

I agree, if you are dealing Manny you absolutely have to get a Right handed power hitter to replace him. Glaus and Tejada are probably the only two players available who fit that bill and it doesn't look like getting Tejada is realistic.

It sounds like the Red Sox are trying to do a lot behind the scenes to make Manny's life in Boston easier. I still think he ends up staying.

JP has been kinda hot and cold when it comes to the truth. All through this offseason he's played a game of "well I dunno we might do this/oh we're not really interested" etc etc and more often then not the rumours come true.

So I halfway expect this trade to go down.

Re: D-Backs looking to ship Glaus to Jays or Red Sox

When the NY paper reported the Jays signed BJ, JP denied the story.
We all know the truth of that story.

It looks like the D-Backs leaked out the story to Rosenthal to hopefully drive up the price for Glaus.

Now other teams (namely the Red Sox) know they have to offer something better than Hudson and Batista for him.

If this trade goes through, I think it would be wise for the Jays to move Hill to SS and Adams to 2B.

Mike Wilner from the Fan 590 says the deal has a strong chance to go through. He said Hillenbrand would be traded away if Glaus comes to the Jays.

Of course this still doesn't address the lack of power from the corner OF positions.
