Re: More Cubs trades
Actually the cubs will have Miller and Bako catching this year, which will be a major improvement over last year. Hundley offered very little in terms of offense and especially defence and at least with Miller and Bako, the defence will be shored up. Plus with the cubs young pitching staff, its gonna be important to have veteran catchers behind the plate.
As far as Karros, he battled through injuries all of last season and still managed to go .271/13/ 73 and if healthy will be a great insurance policy if Hee Seop Choi falters. Grudzielanek will be a great backup for Gonzalez at short and Hill at second. I consider getting rid of Hundley a bonusComment

Re: More Cubs trades
Bryan, what do you think of them possibly signing Kent to play third??Comment

Re: More Cubs trades
Jeff Kent costs tooo much $$ for the cubs, even though they have it.
Personally, I think they should trade Sosa!!!!They could get some young guys by trading him to a contender. If no one has noticed Sosa only plays well in the game the Cubs lose.

Re: More Cubs trades
Yeah, they should've traded him to the Yankees when they were interested a couple of years ago. Yankees were offering Soriano, Johnson, and a couple of pitching prospects. How nice would Soriano look in a cubbies uni??
How can you say Sosa only does well in the games the cubs lose?? Last year, maybe, but two years ago and prior to that, Sosa was their best player day in day out. And last year, who could blame him? How long can you expect a guy to be the only one trying, and he had some off the field problems but if thats an off year for him, thats cool with me. Guys would kill to be able to call that an off year!Comment

Re: More Cubs trades
I didnt realize this at the time of the trade, but the Cubs actually got $2 million also.Comment

Re: More Cubs trades
Well, they did lose 95 games this season. That's a whole lot of losing... over half of his at-bats came in games that they lost, so that equals him doing well when the Cubs lose.Comment

Re: More Cubs trades
Yah in 2002 they lost 95 and he just barely broke 100 RBI's and didn't hit all that well in the clutch. But in previous years he hit well in the clutch and I just get tired of hearing that argument in Chicago it is spouted out by un-informed band wagon jumping fans who don't really watch too many games and don't realize what Sammy has really accomplished. Bryan isn't really one of these guys but he likes the same argument.
Another way to look at it, is do you realize how good you would have to be to drive in a 160 runs only in non pressure situations?Comment

Re: More Cubs trades
I thought it was a good trade for the Cubs.
That contract Chicago gave Hundley went over like a lead balloon.
I thought it was a lot like the Rockies dealing Hampton - doesn't matter what they get back - the important thing is to get rid of the guy and his ridiculous contract.
Let him be someone else's problem.Shawn Drotar

Re: More Cubs trades
I agree the Cubs really needed to get rid of Hundley for his sake and theirs. As long as Karros and Grudz understand they are going to be backups I think it will work out OK, plus now if Choi or Hill falter they have solid backup.
I like what the Cubs have done so far. Remlinger left reliever, Damian Miller and Bako to catch. 3rd basemen is still an area of concern.Comment
