As long as they aren't making the playoffs as he is on the team I blame it on him Haha, I personally just don't like hi. I would much rather have a couple of young players.

      Re: More Cubs trades

The year he had 160 rbi, Ron Coomer was second on the team in rbi. He had 53. Thats 107 rbi difference and if i'm not mistaken, thats a record for difference in rbi between 1st and 2nd on a team(not for sure, i didnt look it up). Last year not withstanding, how can you say sosa only contributes when the team looses?? No there not winning, but nobody else is helping out either. I guess you have to admit that of all the players that arent helping the Cubs win, he's helping them lose by less runs? It'd be interesting to do a study of total runs produced by everybody on the team with a split of total runs produced win/lose.

I watch the cubs every summer on WGN and although i'm no expert, just merely watching and observing will show you how important Sosa is to the cubs. Yeah they lost 95 games that year, but where would they be without him?

YEAR G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS BA OBP SLG OPS
      2002 150 556 122 160 19 2 49 108 103 144 2 0 .288 .399 .594 .993

Was someone else on that team gonna put up close to those numbers? Is it his fault that he's the only marque offensive player on the team? No. The cubs have the resouces to go out and land just about any big $ free agent they want. I'll admit that last year they had McGriff and sometimes Alou and I was a little dissapointed that things didnt go as well as they should have, but I think this year will be different. I like the trades and I love the fact that they got Baker. They have a solid core of young players coming up from the minors and like cook said, if everyone knows their role, things should start to improve soon.

Would I be against a Sosa trade? No. In fact, if the Cubs arent gonna surround him with a decent cast of players, they should trade him. The Cubs arent the Reds. There is no reason that we should sign one player to a large contract and not be able to sign others to compliment him. Everyones got their own opinion, and this is mine.

And bryan, please dont think that i'm out to get you or whatever. Just nice to talk baseball on the boards again.

Woohoo for the Cubs. I love 'em. Love talking about them.

I don't really know what it is. I just think the Cubs would do soo much better by trading Sosa.

RUmor has it now they might get Pudge No way could the Cubs do one smart thing for 2 years straight. Last year being draft Prior.

          Re: More Cubs trades

Yeah, it looks like the Cubs are the only team that's seriously interested in Pudge. Maybe they could get him for $5-6 million and then add in some incentives based on games played or at-bats. Could be a good deal for both sides.

If the rumors are true, the Cubs are looking to make more deals.

Supposedly they are looking to trade Kyle Farnsworth, Carlos Zambrano, and Bobby Hill to Montreal for Jose Vidro, Fernando Tatis, and Javier Vasquez.

          then...

They'd take Eric Karros and Fernando Tatis and trade them to Colorado for Denny Neagle and Jose Jimenez.

            Re: More Cubs trades

I dont know if Colorado would take Karros or Tatis since they have some good corner infielders coming up through the minors. Heltons not going anywhere, but at the time being, they could use tatis as a stopgap.

It would be nice to have Vazquez, Neagle and Jimenez though.

              From CBS Sportsline:

The Chicago Sun-Times reported GM Jim Hendry's remaining tasks are finding a starting left-hander, a closer and a third baseman who is a better alternative than Mark Grudzielanek or Mark Bellhorn. ... Earlier, the Sun-Times reported the Cubs remained very interested in free-agent catcher Ivan Rodriguez. The newspaper said Rodriguez and agent Jeff Moorad could get a contract proposal from the Cubs soon after Saturday's deadline passes lifting the compensation obligation for teams signing new free agents. The Sun-Times said Cubs also hoped to be active when the annual winter meetings begin Dec. 13 in Nashville. They are believed to be exploring talks with the Expos, who have a wealth of talent that could be available in a cost-cutting atmosphere. Star pitcher Bartolo Colon has been the most talked-about trade possibility, but indications are the Cubs have made overtures about Expos starter Javier Vasquez , as well as second baseman Jose Vidro. The Cubs likely would have to part with pitchers Kyle Farnsworth, Juan Cruz or Carlos Zambrano or perhaps two of them.

Would love to see them add a real 3rb baseman, but then maybe Belhorn could do OK. If they could get Rodriguez at a decent price I am all for it, but with his injury history and having to adjust to the NL, I am a little leary of him.

I agree. He has trouble managing a pitching staff too. Maybe the Cubs could bring Girardi back as a coach. He think he'd do well. I would not, however, want to see Girardi back as a player.

If they do sign Pudge hopefully the contract will be heavily incentive based.

Any Cub fans here besides myself. I became a fan when I was younger. I used to get home from school and turn to WGN to watch cartoons only to find the freaking Cubs playing a day game. It used to piss me off. I'm almost embarrassed to say my favorite player was Shawon Dunston back in the day.

I can't see why the Expos would want to trade Vasquez and after how bad Farnsworth was last year, his value is probably pretty low.

Oscar Acosta did a lot better job handling the staff than Rothschild. I like Farnsworth too and would only mind giving him up if we could get someone very good back.

I thought he did a pretty desent job, but he had over 100 strike outs. Hopefully he'll be able to lower that this year. I have no problem if he's the everday thirdbasemen if he can play like he did last year though.
