Re: LMAO, Joe Girardi...
For all the people who say this is stupid... I would advise you to back up your opinion by caling every employer in the US and scold them for enforcing a dress code on their employees.
Yes it is a game... but its still their job and Girardi is the boss... so they have to listen to what the boss says just like in any other work environment. If the players dont like it... which from the article ays they are for it... they can voice their displeasue by leaving... I bet theres a lot of minor leaguers who would kill to be in their spot facial hair or none.

Yeah, but you're forgetting most professions that have some kind of a dress code depend heavily on presentation to be successful. If you work for an investment firm and you have to entertain some 60 year old clients of yours and show up in beach attire with a wild bear they're not going to take you seriously and likely won't invest in your company. Which points out, to some degree, how stupid some people are that they still judge a book by its cover even though we teach our children differently. The employers aren't really stupid, just the people who adhere to stereotypes and think a man with long hair, metal in his face, or whatever is an idiot.
A baseball team does not rely so much on presentation outside of their uniforms. If you want an example look at Johnny Damon who was one of the most popular players in baseball, still got endoresements, still got into People magazine, and the Red Sox still sold out every game. Fans only care about a team's win/loss record, not their facial hair. This is just Girardi trying to instill some measure of discipline on his young squad, and I don't think making them shave everyday is the right way to do it as that likely will not affect their performance on the field.Comment

How is it a joke?
It's almost exactly the same thing.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Some teams don't allow headbands, some want you in suits, some want you clean shaven. It's all part of an a look they want their employees to have. It's all the same thing.
I personally wouldn't care if the Marlins, Yankees, and Mets didn't have this rule, but I also don't have a problem if they want to have it. Their team, their rules.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Your point about Johnny Damon is 100% correct... but thats the Red Sox. Every team... just like every company has a different policy. The Red Sox didnt care about appearance which is fine because every team is different. But I just dont think people should criticize the Marlins for making a personal decision to change its image. Unfortunately.. people still do believe the stereotypes about people with long hair being the wild and crazy type.. but I guess the Marlins feel they have to cater to these stereotypes.
Persoanally I wouldnt care either way... but I think Girardi did it to show new control over the team more than anything else.

Because he doesn't have the same code to follow.

Sorry, not seeing the difference.
I don't think a head band is the biggest thing to worry about either, but some coaches don't allow them.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: LMAO, Joe Girardi...
The Marlins, or any other team, don't enforce dress/grooming codes because they think it makes the players play better. They do it because the teams have a certain image that they want their players to project. Some teams are stricter than others.XBL: Mean Greene
