Maybe, but any player would have taken that deal if offered to them. Blame Tom Hicks for that one.

A-Rod is a great player, and he seems like a good citizen.
He might worry about his image a little too much, but that hardly makes him the symbol of what's wrong in baseball.
Actually I came on a bit too strong. I don't really hate the guy per se but he does take himself far too seriously and is an attention hog to the extreme with that whole WBC thing.
Sorry if I may have gone overboard. I'll just grin from ear to ear when he chokes in clutch situations this coming season.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Could Ken Griffey Jr. Break the Home Run Record?
I'd love to see Griffey break it and I'm sure he would have if not for all the injuries, but it's too little too late IMO. I just can't see him staying healthy for the remainder of his career.
I agree that Arod will break it. He's sitting at 429 right now and is 30 years old. I don't like him as a player, but it's been amazing what he's been able to accomplish at such a young age.
Pujols is another great example. What he's been able to accomplish at 26 is impressive. He's currently on the same pace as Arod. If Pujols averages 40 HR's over the next 4 seasons, he'll be right where Arod is now.
If they both stay clear of injury, they both could pass Aaron's mark.Comment

Re: Could Ken Griffey Jr. Break the Home Run Record?
Griffey is my favorite athlete of all-time, I loved watching him on the Mariners when I was really little. Had he stayed healthy his whole career, he probably could've broken the home run record.

Re: Could Ken Griffey Jr. Break the Home Run Record?
I always thought in the early 90's that Griffey and Frank Thomas would make a run at the record.
I still have 50+ cards of each player from my childhood. I wish Griff had stayed healthy, he was fun to watch even if he did hate the Yanks."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Could he have broken it when he was averaging 55+ home runs a year in the 90's? Yes...but it's way too late now.I write things on the Internet.
