Re: Gooden -arrested AGAIN!!
What a waste. He could have been as good as Roger Clemens. Matter of fact, him and Clemens both came to the majors around the same time and I always regarded Gooden as the better pitcher. Gooden was absolutely un-hittable in his early years. BUT he couldn't lay off the 'snow' and that's why Clemens is going to the Hall of Fame and Gooden to the Hall of Shame.I have more respect for a man who let's me know where he stands, even if he's wrong. Than the one who comes up like an angel and is nothing but a devil. - Malcolm XComment

Re: Gooden -arrested AGAIN!!
He wasnt a total waste. He still almost won 200 games and his 1985 season is the best of any pitcher in the past 30 years as far as Im concerned. Drugs ruined the last half of his career.Comment

Re: Gooden -arrested AGAIN!!
Sad story.
He can't shake the nose candy habit. He entered rehab for coke in 1987. If he didn't have any off the field problems, you might be saying he was one of the top 5 pitchers in baseball history.Comment

Re: Gooden -arrested AGAIN!!
Originally posted by SPTOThe thing is, this guy had the potential to be a 300 game winner and be imortalized as one of the great pitchers of all time. His stuff was pure electricity when he was on top of his game. He never fully realized his potential and for that reason his story is one of the major tragedies in sports.
Yeah your right. He should have been going to cooperstown when he was done playing. Now the only place hes going is prison.Comment

Re: Gooden -arrested AGAIN!!
TAMPA, Fla., March 22 (AP) — Dwight Gooden, the former Mets and Yankees pitcher, admitted in court Wednesday that he had violated his probation by using cocaine. He probably faces prison time when he is sentenced next month.
Dressed in an orange jail uniform and with family members looking on, Gooden, 41, answered "yes, sir," when Judge Anthony K. Black of the 13th Judicial Circuit Court asked him if he had violated his probation. Gooden will remain in jail and faces up to five years in prison after a hearing April 5.
"We are seeking prison," the prosecutor Pam Bondi said afterward, but it has not been determined how long of a sentence her office will request.
Gooden admitted to a probation officer last week that he had used cocaine. He was serving three years' probation for speeding away from a police officer who had stopped him last year on suspicion of drunken driving.
In November, he apologized to the court when he pleaded guilty to a felony count of fleeing the police, misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and obstruction and to an unrelated charge of hitting his girlfriend.
As part of his probation, Gooden was ordered to stay away from alcohol, drugs and bars, and submit to a minimum of three random urine tests a week. He also spent several months in an inpatient treatment facility for alcohol and drug addiction.
His lawyer, Peter Hobson, declined to comment on Gooden's latest trouble.
"We're just going to prepare for the hearing in two weeks," he said. Gooden's family members also left court without commenting.
