Re: Red Sox trade Arroyo to Cincy for Willy Mo
wow..Cincy got hosed. Mo Pena is a great CF. Credit to the Boston FO, I'm quite jeolous to be honest...I know the Yankees tried to re-acquire him this winter, but couldn't..so props again goes out to the Boston's FO. -
Re: Red Sox trade Arroyo to Cincy for Willy Mo
Willy Mo is gonna platoon with Trot I guess. No more starting job for him. I'm surprised Arroyo got traded since he just signed a contract, but Nixon is terrible against lefties. Willy Mo might finally live up to the potential every one always talks about, in that lineup.NBA: New York Knicks
NCAA: Duke
MLB: New York Yankees
NFL: New York JetsComment

I'm surprised the Sox traded Arroyo, but he had much better value than Wells. This is a perfect fit as the 4th OF since he can platoon with Nixon, and will end up playing quite a bit since he kills LHP.Comment

Willy Mo and Coco Crisp....that's a pretty solid young OF combo.
This makes zero sense.
I just remembered Casey is gone so that meant Dunn would be at first, thus they can conserve an outfield of KGJ, WMP and Kearns.
This hurts more being a Jays fan and knowing that we could've had WMP this summer.Comment

Plus, like you said Willy Mo gives us the perfect compliment to Nixon...we just have to hope he can learn that corner quickly.Comment

Re: Red Sox trade Arroyo to Cincy for Willy Mo
To be honest, I'm not overly impressed with Wily Mo Pena. Yes, he's got tremendous power, but he's a strikeout machine and OBP nightmare. He's like Pedro Cerrano in Major League - "I cannot hit curveball. Straightball I hit it very much. Curveball, bats are afraid.".
Of course Arroyo is a back of the rotation starter and the upside to Pena is drastically larger than the upside to Arroyo - in Arroyo's case, his upside has probably already been reached.Comment

As a Sox fan though, it makes a lot of sense. They needed to get rid of at least one starter and needed a legitimate platoon for RF. Wily Mo was 291/345/536 vs LH last year, which is really all we need him to do. He also reportedly had a huge winter league in the Dominican.Comment
