Another year, another round of stubborn Mets picks.

    And another first round loss.

Built for the long haul? How, by calling up a few rookies and praying that they play better than the creaky old men they replaced? By signing a center fielder with a noodle of an arm? By signing a 41 year old left handed pitcher who looks like he belongs in a NASCAR? I'm sorry man but the Yankees are never built for the future. The Yankees are always built for the year at hand, and that's it.

I don't mean the long haul as in years and years, I mean the long haul as in 162 games and not a 5 or 7 game playoff series.

                  Re: 2006 Predictions

Honestly, I have a feeling people are really placing expectations way too high for Jonathan Papelbon. He was pretty good in his time last year, but he still only has 1 good pitch - a fastball.
It is a damned good pitch, might I add, but he has not proven he can successfully throw anything else to Major Leaguers yet. Until he does that and proves he can succeed through a full season and the playoffs, I think all annointings as the next coming of Clemens should be tempered just a bit.

I think people see the following:
                  - Throws 95
                  - Has the physical composition of a healthy, robust, "horse" type starter
                  - Intense competitor
                  - Clemens type delivery
                  - Short term success

and correlate that with being really, really good. These are necessary traits of becoming a filthy pitcher, but they are not sufficient enough to place high expectations. Personally, I see him as a #2 or 3 starter, which is still pretty good.

Isn't Joey Devine the guy who gave up a grand slam in his first pitching experience in the majors last year? If it is, I remember watching that live. I kinda felt bad for him, but then I remembered he's a Brave.

Yeah, one of them was to Xavier Nady, his very first outing.

I want to change my ROY predictions for both leagues.

                                AL ROY: Ian Kinsler
                                NL ROY: Ryan Zimmerman

I would choose Conor Jackson for NL, but I wonder how many ABs he'll get this year. Also, from reading a bunch of stuff, I've gathered that Conor Jackson is supposed to be the next great power hitter? Apparently he is just crushing the ball this spring, which I know is not a good indicator of regular season success, but like I said, it seems like every scout and analyst is drooling over this kid. Is he as good as advertised?
