    Official Barry Bonds Thread

    What is up with this?
Through an entire Eric Young AB we were treated to a series of accounts of Bonds's ability to hit the ball.
He was noted as having the quickest read of spin in the game, he was alleged by peers as not being fooled by pitches, save for the rarest of occasions.

After Young rips a shot to the warning track in LF, we learn that, while he has lost the 2nd and 3rd step, Bonds's first step is as great as it was when he was in his 20s...

Barry Bonds has been a part of baseball for a long time, I remember cringing at the thought of playing against pittsburgh, I do not doubt his ability...but this "stroking" was a bit strange...

Do you guys think there is a push (from where, I dunno) to "remind" us that Bonds is a great player, or was...?

ESPN has one priority: make money.

Know what they have debuting tomorrow night? "Bonds On Bonds"

    See the connection here?

        Re: ESPN and Bonds

I have been thinking quite the opposite lately. They've been touting guys like Pujols, Ortiz, Ramirez, and Guerrero. Bonds is just in that different league where I think his attention is somewhat underlooked. I think that's a really weird thing for them to do during an AB (if you're saying that they cut away from Young to do that), but Bonds should get it IMO.

On another note... the Giants are TERRIBLE right now!

You're killing me Blzer. Bonds underlooked?

Bonds gets more ESPN press than any of the guys you mentioned. Not last year since he was injured, but by far that's been the case during spring and today.

ESPN's love affair with Barry is over the top. Afterall, he's the only guy with his own show on ESPN.

ESPN is ********. As far as I am concerned, no pitch should EVER be missed, regardless of what is going on elswhere (aside from organized monkeys performing a rogue coup of the ballpark). The fact that they cut to a shot of Jesse Barfield for the 56th time during Mark Bellhorn's at bat was absurd.

The guy isn't even doing anything. He's sitting there watching the ballgame. How riveting.

For real. Just look at the ESPN homepage right now. Rollins extended his hit streak to 37 games. Pujols hit two homers and Ortiz hit one. Yet who has his picture there? Yep you guessed it.

He gets press as people looking at him as the enemy. This is really the first time I'm hearing about him as a good guy, and his good qualities. I'm saying that there are players that are now being COMPARED to Bonds. Given the current strategies faced against him, I cannot see how he still manages to be the best (and yes, better than Pujols) player in the league.

What good qualities?A good guy? Are you serious. And no, he's no longer better than Pujols.

You're seeing something different than I am. ESPN has been in love with him so far. Just look at the homepage now and the MLB homepage. It's all about Barry and his double today (even though other players today had better days).

Sorry man, Pujols is the man now IMO. He's passed everyone.

HAHA ESPN is the most ANTI-Bonds station there is, I doubt that they try to "glorify" how great of a player he is.

This situation has occured many times before with players ranging from A-Rod to Bobby Crosby. It's not just a Bonds ordeal.

Uh huh. Just wait until he starts getting pitched to like a man. Just wait until they build a ballpark that does not suit him. Just wait until they put on a shift so extreme that the only way to get on is a bunt. Just wait until he gets pitched 2 - 0 and 3 - 1 changeups and backdoor sinkers. Just wait until he loses focus and patience getting walked 233 times a year, intentionally 120 times. Just wait until his roids calm down.

Just kidding about the last one. But just wait. Bonds still has the upper-hand in my eyes, and in a lot of other people's eyes. If you guys consider Pujols' 2 run performance today vs. Bonds' 1 for 4 performance today an end-all verdict of who is the better player, recall that in 2002 Bonds hit 4 home runs in the first 2 games (and I think 5 in the first 3). Pujols is definitely starting out much stronger than Bonds had, but it's all about the finish... and right now, it's unknown. Maybe he WILL end up much better, but right now, he's not. And it's still completely unfair to consider either of them in the same league. Just remember that RC/27 statistic. Let's just see...

Not seeing it and neither are many others.

If they are ANTI-Bonds, why did they give him his own reality show? They're in this to make money and they're going to milk that show for as much as they can. They love Barry. You're kidding yourself if you think otherwise.

By the way... I know that I always sound like a crack-addict when I post about Bonds. I understand that, and I know that. I regret everything that I post about him (because they sound luney when I type them), but inside my head, they sound like the most sane points and views in the world... and I do not regret having them.

I just have a different opinion than each and every other person in the world, and that's okay. If I have a different opinion, though... you can debate with me, I don't mind. I actually love these debates, though I'm nowhere near winning in terms of the majority factor. Also, my points are all improvisational, making them sound very disorganized and comedic. But please don't laugh at me about them, okay? I don't have the power (again, by majority) to laugh at anybody else for any of their opinions, and I have to shy away at those points.

But I am allowed to like Bonds, consider him the best player that has ever lived, etc., and I should not have to be given crude remarks about how I am a good stand-up guy. I should be laughing at every Royals and Tigers fan out there, regardless of your location on this planet. I should laugh at people that enjoy things like sabermetrics and collecting memorabilia, just because I think that they are crazy obsessions, and complete wastes of time. Just... don't use my posts as comedic relief. Either ignore it, or choose to agree or disagree.
