      Re: ESPN and Bonds

Another thing that I will pose for you guys (directly concerning the thread starter's complaint):

I once asked why all of the steroid attention is on Bonds, and not on anybody else that's in the major leagues or minor leagues. Your guys' answer was simple... it's because he's chasing down possibly the single greatest American sports record of all-time. So, now somebody asks why Bonds is getting attention on ESPN (be it the T.V. or website), and I'll give you an answer... it's because he's chasing down possibly the single greatest American sports record of all-time.

That's really the best I can give you. Besides, it's been repeated by analysts and radio hosts all over the country: Love him, hate him, or indifferent towards him--if Barry Bonds is up to bat, you stop what you're doing, and you watch.

I mean, ESPN is probably doing it to benefit them more than him. This way, it can be a Win/Win.

I have seen this guy play more games live then you ever did! His throw were right there, sure he has a weak arm, but because of his quick release and accuracy he made a lot of great throws! Don't believe me listen to what the expert says and scouts. I am sure you can find that, because all you ever do is act like you know everything.

Which kills your argument all together. As has been pointed out repeatedly in this thread, Bonds has always had a reputation of having a mediocre-at-best arm.

No doubt he is still dangerous, I just think Albert has jumped ahead of him. He was better at a young age than Bonds was and that's saying something since Bonds was legit then and not a roid machine.

Do you not like him now because of his steroid usage or something? If he was still on your team, are you saying that you would think differently?
I'm not sure I ever said or inferred that and the team has nothing to do with it IMO (as I don't like some players on the current Pirates team) but to answer your question:

No I didn't like Barry when he was on my team. I saw through his act way back then. He was rude and egotistical back then. Then I got to meet him and thought even worse of him after that encounter (Andy Van Slyke was the same way. I got to meet the entire team in the early 90's as my friend's father was the trainer. Bonds and Van Slyke were the only 2 jerks).

If he was still on the Pirates, I'd still dislike him. I'd be banned from PNC Park for sitting in the LF bleachers and rifling golfballs at his head everytime he took the field.

I have, my college roommate Danny McCormack who worked in the front office for the A's up until going to work for Nike last year, and Pat Gallagher another close friend who was a long time Giants exec told me exactly what I am telling you.

Who's to say that 1) Steroids make you bigger (and is impossible to keep you the same size); 2) Body growth and development is the only reliable evidence to judge who takes steroids; and 3) Pujols didn't take steroids before being promoted to the MLB?

Dating back to my involvement in college football, I have been around a lot of steroids and steroid users. There are certain things that can give them a way. Pujols does not show any of them. Can you tell for sure? No, but it's doubtful. The same can not be said for Bonds.

Regardless of what you say, because of the everything I said he gets the outs. Just ask Atlanta win he threw the guy out at home, and then hit the winning home run. I am not saying he has a strong arm. But release and accuracy play a big part and Bonds has that! So I guess releases and accuracy mean nothing lmao!

Sorry, but Bonds was never considered a 5 tool player, his arm was never considered to be a plus arm by anyone.

Speaking of, I saw Sid at a pizza store where I live a few months ago. Good guy. He still lives in this area and I was talking to him about that play. I asked him about it. He said "I couldn't believe they were waiving me home. I thought they had me mixed me up with someone else".
