Someone's taking a break from the forums. As for everyone in this thread, let's keep the talk about Barry.

Oh well, doesn't matter. You won't be hearing from me tomorrow, because... you know... I'm flying down to San Diego State to talk with Tony Gwynn about my future spot on his team next year. Not bragging... just telling a statement.
When did this become the official lets all see how cool Blzer is for playing baseball. I played high school ball too, can I post my pics.

All you had to say was that Bonds won't get the message about inside pitching because......, you didn't have to toot your own horn in the process.

And about them not celebrating Bonds' passing Ruth, why should they? He hasn't broken a record, just moved into second place.

Looks like blzer took things off-topic....

Anywho, it's interesting how MLB won't be celebrating Bonds hitting 715. That's probably one of the smarter decisions especially if Bonds happens to hit it on the road.

The thing is, he won't hit it on the road. Every milestone HR he's hit has been at home, this one won't be any different.

Which just goes to prove how much of a fraidy cat Bonds is.

Actually if Bonds breaks the record then i'm gonna fear for his life because there's gonna be quite a few people out to get him. If you thought Hank Aaron had pressure and threats (and believe me he did) it'll pale in comparison to Bonds in that the media will be all over the story.

Somehow I think it's the media's fault that records don't have that magical feel to them. They overplay the significance of them and hype them up and when the record is broken it feels stale.

The last time a record truly felt special was when Ripken broke Gehrig's streak.

Are we supposed to be impressed because he's allegedly taking a visit to SDSU for a campus visit?

And if he's willing to get hit by that many pitches, without thinking about it, something tells me he's in a league full of soft tossers.

Couldnt agree more. I think they should begin to limit some of the body armor that players wear. To me, this would give the inside part of the plate back to pitchers and would cause some players to back off the plate a little bit. To me, the only people who should be able to wear a little bigger piece of padding are pitchers and fielders who bat the opposite way that they throw.

I didnt help the thread stay on topic either and for that I apologize.

I agree on the fact that they shouldnt celebrate since they really havent before. However, I believe it is rediculous for Selig to backtrack like he has though. To me he is just spineless.

I also find it funny that Selig states that the book Game of Shadows influeced his decision to investigate the steroid allegations. Does anyone else think he probably should have done this at least when SI brought the steroid scandall public, if not before then when it was still widely suspected.

Selig had to wait until he had the governments backing before investigating the use of steroids. Lets remember that the drug testing policy is a CBA issue and if Selig would've tried an investigation before the new drug policy was in place, then he would have run the risk of having the players strike.

Let be REAL here people. Selig has no choice but to investiage now. Is too pout in the open now. What the both the players and the owners really were hoping for is this stuff to never see the light of day, but now it has and they have to deal with it. If the SI article never came out..if you didnt have disgruntled ex pro players who need some income to pay thier child support writing books about it, for the media to pick up the ball and run with it..there would be no investigations, and Bond's would have been celebrated at 715.

Selig has to investigate now because its a public matter. Its all about the PR now. IMO Bud can suck a fat one. Hes not investigating for the right reasons..baseball has to do something now cuz they got caught with thier pants down.

I am Giants fan, I think they shouldn't celebrate it. It is not like he is taking the record. Sure Babe is probably the greatest player to ever play, but the he is in second. I do think that they might have celebrated it if there was no roids issue! But I agree with Bud on this one.

Did MLB celebrate when Bonds hit his 62nd homerun in '01?

How about when Ripken moved ahead of
                              Everett Scott into second?

When Rickey moved into second for stolen bases?

Clemens moving into second on the K's list?

My point? There's nothing spectacular about moving into second.

And let us not forget that Bowie Kuhn, who was the commissioner in 1974, wasn't even in attendance when Aaron broke Ruth's record.
