I agree, but sometimes you can let go of too many prospects and have no one to replace aging veterans.

At 24 and 22, Willis and Cabrera arent exactly aging veterans

Trust me...I know about that. Most of the Expos' farm system is in Cleveland now.

Exactly. Loewen for example is 22. He might be a 20 game winner someday, but Willis IS a 20 game winner and only 2 years older. I'd rate Lester ahead of Loewen and wouldn't think twice if the Red Sox gave him up for Willis.

I'm not talking about Willis and Cabrera. I'm talking about some GM's in general how they go and trade their top prospects than alas, they have an aging third basemen and starting pitcher and no one ready to replace them

Re: Willis and Cabrera on the trading block?

I understand that Willis is a very good pitcher... but does anyone else think people are touting him as one of the greatest a little too early? Think about it... he's only 23 and his only fantastic year was last year. The year before? A 4.02 ERA in a pitchers park and a weak hitting NL.

Baseball-reference has his stats through age 23 most similar to Ramon Martinez when he was 23 so maybe people should wait at least 1 more year until they get so unbelievably high on him. If anyone forgot... Esteban Loaiza also finished 2nd in the Cy Young at some point in his career.

would be really dumb to trade these guys away. i know it doesnt mean much but the marlins have a good load of young talent cabrera, willis, hermidia, willingham, rameriez, etc.

Hell, how about Brandon Inge, Nook Logan/Marcus Thames, and Tata for Cabrera.

Teams would line up to get both players but I expect Willis will fetch a better package in return. The Yanks could offer Cano, Wang, and Hughes. The Red Sox could start their package with Jon Lester.

Yeah I heard the rumors were false too. It made no since esp if we are gonna move out of Fla. Let's see trade away the two biggest draws, and get prospects. That's like a F'n AAA team in the majors. Nobody would want to accept the franchise. These two will be around for awhile. I have no doubt about it.

Well the Marlins want to move and by trading away Willis and Cabrera then the Franchise value goes way down, that would make it MORE likely for someone accept the franchise in a new location.

Umm not quite. Why would a city accept a franchise if they knew no one would attend the games?

If I am Terry Ryan, GM of the Twins, I offer Matt Moses AND Fransisco Liriano for Cabrera. He and Mauer would be the most insane 3-4 pair for the next 10+ years. Of course, it would never, EVER happen, since Liriano is basically the second coming of Jesus, according to the Twins.

I don't care how crappy the team is -- bring it to Portland and people will come to the games.

                              ...course...not A LOT of people....but...some....
