    A-Rod

I might be alone on this... but watching him everyday... I think in a little over 2 seasons, he has become a better 3B than he was a SS. He is just so good to his right down the line and making the long throw among other things.

Anyone else think that hes become a better 3B than he was at SS?

He was a much better SS than Jeter. I think 3B is easier and with a player as talented as A-Rod it wouldn't surprise me.

      Re: A-Rod

As much as it sucks, considering the Sox could have had him (not that I really care aside from a talent standpoint, we won a WS and that's all I wanted), he has become a better third baseman than he was shortstop. That's the one reason whenever I get in arguments with friends over who the best player in the league is (usually between Pujols and A-Rod), I stick with A-Rod. Because along side of being just as good of a hitter as Pujols and a bigger threat on the basepaths, he is one of the best defensive players in the league as well. So yeah, even being a Sox fan, I can admit how damn good he is, and that he is in fact a better 3B than he was at SS now.

EDIT: Of course, about two seconds after I posted this, I saw Pujols jacked three homeruns in today's game. Heh, talk about irony.

I think its tough to compare difficulty of 3B and SS. They are very different positions although they are so close to one another.

A-Rod is a good enough athlete that he'd be good at almost every position.

I think he was a better shortstop though. He has great range and a great arm, both are needed more at short. And I think he still has some issues with his footwork at 3rd.

            Re: A-Rod

He's a good third baseman in the field, but he isn't even the best in his league so to say he is better there than he was at shortstop is a bit extreme. According to the guys at BP, he had a negative fielder rating last year, so take that for what its worth.

He got robbed of the gold glove last year, Chavez played like half a season and still won it.

                Games at 3B (2005)
                Chavez: 151
                ARod: 157

                Defensive Rating (Baseball Prospectus)
                Chavez: 7
                ARod: -5

Chavez was the clear winner. He's probably the best in the game right now (though Rolen would have to argue).

Rolen would have to stay healthy before he can be in the argument for the best in the game.

He played 153 games at third last year, how the hell is that half a season?

                      To Yankees fans...

Ah screw it, I dunno, it's just too much fun to call him a Yankee homer.

You know what would be entertaining? If Bonds got traded to the Yanks. Imagine the homerdom we would have to deal with then.

He had an astounding 18 rating in 2004, and even while hobbled last year he still had a rating of 6. If healthy, he is definitly one of the best. I give Chavez the nod now, and I think he'll be an MVP candidate this year as well.

But I still think Rolen needs to stay almost completely healthy to get close to being the best for the reason that players have to be durable.

I see your point, but I'm just talking about best defensive third baseman not best overall.
