Re: What's the scoop with Felix Hernandez?
F
I felt at the time he was going to be the best pitcher in the game at some point. I still do. I'm not sure exactly when that will happen. At this point I'm waiting, I'm hoping he's going to fulfill his potential this year. And yes, I feel like he has the best stuff in the game.Comment

Re: What's the scoop with Felix Hernandez?
Never said he was better than Rivera. Actually said Rivera was the best I have ever seen. Said that saying he was overrated was ridiculous. Using the quality of competition argument over a 15 year span, is even more ridiculous. Even moreso when you consider baseball hasn't used an unbalanced schedule over the span of his career.Comment

Re: What's the scoop with Felix Hernandez?
Stress the "may".
That was my hyperbolic stuff trying to get people to talk.
I'll also add the (I can't remember the exact quote, something like this):
He has the best stuff in the league "by far."
Also, to get people talking.
I wouldn't say I was being unbiased. But considering the circumstances of the Mariners season...looking back on it, I'm surprised I didn't say more. That was literally the only good thing that happened in the previous 2 years (and I'd been waiting to watch him since he was 17).
My actual feelings were:
Damn. Nobody in the league can throw pitches like this. He has the best stuff in the game.
But in my defense, watch him pitch. If you're in the batters box (David Ortiz) you come out comparing him to Martinez, Clemens, and Ryan.Comment

"He may be the best pitcher in the American League....RIGHT NOW. I wish I was joking. He's like a mix between Freddy Garcia and Pedro Martinez. ERA = 0.69"

I take what hitter say after a game like that with a grain of salt. As I said earlier, I remember Frank Thomas saying Jeff Weaver has Electric Stuff that's as good as anyone, and that he would be dominant.
I also remember Eric Karros saying Darren Dreifort was the filthiest pitcher in the league stuff wise.
His potential is unlimited, and he's been great in 2 starts this year but before comparing him to all-timers, I'd like to see him pitch a while.
I'd also like to see him lose the Mr. T starter kit.Comment

Oh so it was a clever ploy to get people talking?

But please show me a quote after any game that's along the lines of saying: "He has better stuff than Dwight Gooden" ... and "He could be up there with the greats: Clemens, Martinez, Ryan." IMO those go beyond the normal, "he has electric stuff."
I'd like to see him pitch too. Especially, after watching him struggle with the control of his fastball every other game last season.
But yes, I wanted to get people talking about this guy. Hardly anybody knew who he was, and I wanted to make it clear.
Felix can where all the chains he wants as long as he doesn't balloon up to his weight last year. To be honest with you, when I saw him in spring training last year I was starting to get nervous about his work ethic. I'm glad he didn't sit around eating pizza and ice cream all off-season this year.Comment

I'm not denying that people come out of a dominating game saying crazy stuff.

Re: What's the scoop with Felix Hernandez?
This is your legacy right here? He's from the same era as Mo, but he's not even worthy of being called a pimple on Mo's ***. So what kind of a baseball fan call this guy one of the best closers in history. That's crazy. Like I said, what credit are you Padres fans seeking??? You don't get an award for being the best of the worst.Attached FilesComment

Re: What's the scoop with Felix Hernandez?
That's like me saying Rivera is overrated because he blew game 7 vs. Arizona.
Seriously, this is your worst troll attempt ever. You need to go back to the drawing board.Comment

Quiet now, BK got a following here. They come out the works quickly with their clever little witty remarks. The whole peanut gallery, from P all the way to the T.Comment
