Originally posted by BirdsonbatScott Cooper was a trade, and he was only here one year. Cards had to deal with Tino for two, then paid someone to take him for the third year of that contract.
Looked it up, your right. I don't know why I remembered it being a FA signing. That will have to go down as my 3rd worst trade I can remember in Cardinal history. The first 2 being the Van Slyke trade and the Lance Johnson for Jose DeLeon trades."My favorite word in English is 'youneverknow.'" - Joaquin AndujarComment

Aren't some of these selections a little rushed? Shouldn't the player at least have moved on to another team after failing at his current team to qualify?
Beltran? After a season and month? Get real.Comment

Andy Morales, hands down. $5 Million, these were his career numbers.

Re: Worst FA signings ever...
I have to agree that the Beltre and Beltran contracts aren't complete busts just yet. Beltran was never a super-star player even though he got super-star money. He was a really good player who played great down the stretch and in the playoffs before his FA off-season. Beltre is still a mystery. He played great during the WBC and I thought he was gearing up for a really good year and then thud. I wouldn't write him off just yet."My favorite word in English is 'youneverknow.'" - Joaquin AndujarComment

I'll give another Blue Jays flop:
Randy Myers
'nuff said.
Even tho the numbers were ok they were highly deceptive as he was a disruption to the clubhouse and generally wasn't very reliable.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Ken Griffey to the Reds (he has barely played for the team but I would have signed him too...so I guess this one doesn't count)
Alomar was a trade. Only the Mets could take an all star and have him turn into a scrub within 2 years. See Baerga mentioned above."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier
