Delmon didn't light it up in ST and that's why he isn't on the roster. If he had been crushing the ball in ST and earned a starting spot, he would have made the team. But if he's not going to play every day, there's no reason to bring him up to sit on the bench every two or three days. The fact he has one or two extra base hits in AAA so far and now this incident, it shows he isn't ready to be in the big leagues yet. He's already been suspended for arguing with an up last year, so he needs to clean up his act before he comes up to the majors.

LOL I noticed that too and thought to myself "How the hell is he acting that nonchalant about it?"
I wouldn't be running over to the umpire like a madman but I'd turn to atleast look at Young or do something.“Nobody in the history of the game tried what I just tried. We’re talking about on the biggest stage, in New York, playing out of position and asked to hit fourth for the New York Yankees. I mean, that’s never been done.” - Sheffield on SheffieldComment

Re: Example of poor sportsmanship..
I just found out about this. I definitely think he should be suspended for the year.
And here's a video for those who wanted to watch it again.

There is something to be said about where we've come as a society so that we have to think about how we are going to react to someone's actions.
but seriously, that's exactly what you are describing; The action of being civilized.
Was everyone mistaken and rushed to judgement when Roberto Alomar spit at the umpire. I mean, he could've just been screaming and some spit flew out. We should go back to the tape of when Marichal hit Johnny Roseboro with his bat. There's a chance that slipped out of his hands too.
It's one to convict someone guilty in the court of public opinion when an incident happens out of the public's view but, as with this case, there were numerous eye-witnesses and a video tape.
A Mysterious flying bat does not evidence make. The eyewitnesses? How many were actually watching the game, or the incident? how many were close enough to see what happened? In my opinion it comes down to the players and coaches, and what they saw.
Given that evidence I see no reason why we can't act as a jury and act as if he were guilty.
....
BECAUSE WE AREN'T AN ACTUAL JURY!! as such we really have absolutely no right.
It's not rocket science
there's no fingerprinting or DNA involved. The guy assaulted someone. End of story.
As for coming up with a season long suspension.....his job just so happens to be measured by a finite number of games in a year. Precedent has been set by the Artest brawl last year. And this is worse in my opinion because it could be considered assault with a deadly weapon. Suspend him the rest of the season, make him complete an anger management course, and have him talk to schools in the area about negative behavior before he is reinstated.
not an actual judgement....Comment

Yes he walked out of camera range and then you immediately saw a bat fly at the umpire. One that came from the exact direction where Delmon just walked off the field and an instant after the umpire threw him out of the game for saying something to the ump. The opposing catcher says that he heard the ump say "Better get moving" after Delmon stood in the batter's box after strike 3, Delmon left the box and said something back and the ump tossed him. The bat was thrown immediately following that. Delmon issues an apology for his actions. Is there really any rationale thought that would lead someone to believe he wasn't responsible for this?
I understand the public making assumptions about many things in life, but this isn't one of them. Let's not act like people are making wild assumptions about this and claiming Delmon started swinging his bat like a light saber and hacking people's heads off.
As far as his suspension....it's indefinite - which is what it should be UNTIL they go over all the evidence. I've never debated that. However, if I were a betting man, I'd be my house, car, possessions and all the money I have in retirement funds that Delmon reacted to being thrown out and in a fit of his temper, threw the bat at the umpire.Last edited by mjb2124; 04-28-2006, 06:43 PM.Comment

Why? Because I don't believe that there is any doubt that Delmon threw that bat at the umpire.
All I'm saying is that technically that video doesn't count as evidence, and the public doesn't count as a jury. Remember that good ol' saying "Innocent until proven guilty"?
I'm just following it.
I agree with joeboo on this one. He should be suspended indefinitely until they go over all the evidence and an investigation is done on the matter.
All I was ever saying was that Delmon Young has the same rights that we do -- just because he plays a sport in which he has become a public figure doesn't make him any different than us, which means that he should definitely be punished and possibly face some real charges for this, as it could -- as has already been mentioned in here -- constitute for a crime.
I'm just tired of people trying to play both judge and jury and convict someone without allowing them any of their rights, or even acknowledging that they have them.Comment

If you are in a convenience store and some stabs you but it isn't caught on the surveillance camera, yet the store owner, some customers, the guy who stabbed you, and even you yourself tell people that you were stabbed by the guy.....then the chances are he didn't slip on a banana peel and accidentally slip 4" of steel into your gut.Comment

I just think he should be gone for the year, regardless of being angry, you have to control your self and I know that is not easy, but you have to.Comment
