Re: New Twins stadium ok'd
I'm glad to see these multi-sport stadiums are finally going obsolete. Stadiums like the Metrodome and Pro Player Stadium just aren't very good for baseball and to make teams continue to have to play in them is wrong.Originally posted by billmaticRadman is more like the ******** homeless man's version of Okur.Comment

Re: New Twins stadium ok'd
As a local, I actually watched some of the House meeting on this. Some woman actually said she didn't want the stadium, and didn't care if the Twins left, because she visited her grandkids in Montreal, and the city was "just lovely". Then she went off about all these great things Montreal has, like healthcare for everyone. A complete moron.Comment

Re: New Twins stadium ok'd
For those of you who haven't followed the Twins' stadium issue closely, here's what lies ahead.
After being approved by the House, which was considered the biggest hurdle, the bill now goes to the Senate. Both the Senate majority leader and minority leader have gone on record saying they are confident that the bill has enough votes to pass.
There are whispers that the Senate could ammend the bill to expand the Hennepin County tax of .15 percent (3 cents on a $20 purchase) to include the other 6 counties in the Twin Cities metro area. The expansion would be put in place to fund Twins and Vikings stadiums, transportation improvements, and other items requiring revenue. Regardless of if this ammendment is successful, the feeling is that the Senate will at the very least vote for a Twins stadium bill similar to what the House approved on Wednesday.
Governor Tim Pawlenty will almost certainly sign whatever Twins stadium bill that makes it to his desk. If the Twins bill is passed, the $522 million stadium would open in 2010 in the warehouse district in dowtown Minneapolis.Last edited by bender_over; 04-27-2006, 04:03 PM.Minnesota Vikings

Re: New Twins stadium ok'd
this debate was talked about on local radio, and some 75 year old guy called in, and said something to the effect of this:
"There's a soccer club in Europe that has played in the same coliseum for the last 140 years, and these guys want a new stadium when the Metrodome isn't even 25 years old!"Comment
