I'll give an analogy...If I found out today, my mom had lung cancer (which she could perhaps later on, as she smoked a good while), I wouldn't feel sympathy because she knew the consequences of smoking. It'd absolutely kill me inside knowing she had it, and nothing I could do to stop it. May sound harsh, but if you know the affects of something harmful and continue to do it, I just can't feel bad for them.

    Eli;
You said you had your last word on it......and you should have quit while you were "ahead" so to speak.
You're trying to come off like some hardass who thinks that everyone gets what's coming to them and they deserve it that way...and in the process, you're going to basically give them the "I told you so".
If(God forbid) your mother did get lung cancer....and as she lay in her bed, unable to get up...move or even barely speak at the end of her life....and she managed to get out her last words..."Eli, I'm sorry. I'm sorry for my bad choices in life.....I'm sorry for the pain I'm about to put this family through by dying." ....If she said that to you your words to her would NOT be...."too bad mom...but you had it coming to you...I have no sympathy for you because you chose to smoke in your lifetime.....more likely you'd be crying like a baby and you would only say these words...you'd say...."It's alright mom....I forgive you........and you WOULD feel very bad for her.

you are one truly messed up kid. you'd feel no sympathy because she knew the consequences? we know the consequences of a lot of decisions we make. I know, you're perfect. You don't have any crosses to bear. Some people perceive you as being a racists on these boards by some of the comments you make. However, if you went out and got hit by a truck and died, i'm sure a few would be saddened by your death, even though no one knows you personally.

If you know me at all (which it doesn't seem like you), I've never once tried coming across as a "hardass" or a tough guy. That's not me. I've never acted like that, I'm just expressing my feelings.

And like I said, it'd kill me for that to happen because I love her so much, but that doesn't change the fact I wouldn't feel sorry for her. Just like if I went drinking one night, and drove home and crashed into a tree and died, I wouldn't expect anyone to feel bad for me. I made the decision, and paid the price.

But like you said, I said I'd leave the thread. It's about Steve Howe and paying respects, so if you have anything to add, IM me. I'd be glad to discuss.

          ....

eli you should've stopped talking before your last post. Everyone knows the consequences of decisions in life. Some go well and others lead to problems but in the end we're all essentially good people deep inside.

You shouldn't judge people so harshly because they've made some bad decisions in life.

A famous Canadian sportscaster died a couple days ago of lung cancer but he didn't piss and moan about it. He took it as it is and realized that life can be short so enjoy it as much as you can.

I'll qualify my statement to you trying to come off as a hardass....to this particular subject(the subject of you not having sympathy for those that have had some bad judgments....FAMILY members in particular)
As for the rest of what you are saying. I know it wont' happen the way you percieve it to happen. Trust me. Your sympathy would be so overflowing...there will be enough to pass on to someone else. Trust me.....and it's not YOU in particular..it's human nature.....
I hope you don't have to see it for a LONG, LONG time my friend. Trust me on that too.

Re: Steve Howe killed in car crash

zomg, this baseball board has turned into nancy boy central. Seriously, if you feel the need to act holier than thou on a msg board, you suck. Seems like a lot of recent threads have people acting really sanctimonious.

Can't we just talk about baseball here and make a separate board for fancy pants discussions?

For the record: I don't really care about Steve Howe dying. Sucks to hear somebody died in a car wreck, but it happens every day to people across the world. The fact that he was on drugs is irrelevant to this discussion; it's merely a means for 'tards to step on their soapboxes.

I agree. I could not care less about Steve Howe dying either. It's unfortnate the way he died. I get annoyed when people get on their moral high horse and start trying to judge others.

                      A spelling mistake?

For those that could care less he died, why even bother posting in this thread?

                                I agree with Eli.

The problem with our society today is that too many people make excuses for things they do, saying "we all know the consequences of things we do", blah blah blah.

Yes, some freak type things happen and that's sad, but when you know you're doing something obviously destructive, how could anyone feel bad for that?

We're all looking for everyone else to blame yet the blame shouldn't be placed on anyone else but the person.

People need to take responsibilities for their damn actions, sometimes.
