And you think George Brett would? Why would someone like him want to do that? He's Mr Royal. Right now, he can do no wrong.

Well I said if wants to. I bet he'd make a good GM if he really wanted to. He has tons of credibility and if he feels that Glass isn't putting enough money into the team he could air that to the masses.

      Voila!

      Instant fan revolt.

It's been a while since they've even been close (2003 was an anomaly) and the division keeps getting stronger. I can't see them competing for another 5 years or so, earliest. Granted I just read Money Ball so that's fresh in my mind but they need to rethink they're entire system. They've had some good guys leave: Damon, Dye, Beltran but those guys were scouted in the late 1990s.

Their drafts have been busts: Colt Griffin, Jimmy Gobble, Zach Greinke (unbelievable stuff), (though Alex Gordon looks like a stud) And their free agent pickups have been awful: Juan Gonzalez, Benito Santiago, Jose Lima, Joe Mays, Brian Anderson. And their trades? They got mark Teahan, John Buck and Mike Wood for Beltran. I don;t even recall who they got for Dye and Damon, but that's a bad sign. Teahan was just sent down, Buck's about to be, while Wood is a serviceable middle relief/setup guy.

Then the promote Justin Huber from AAA to back up Mientciewicz (sp), not sure why since Huber's a stud and missing ABs won;t help his development. Granted Sweeney's out and he can play DH but you risk rushign this guy just liek they did to Teahan.

And they can't develop pitching, see draft picks plus Dan Reichert (great stuff), Jeremy Affeldt (great stuff), Runelvys Hernandez, Miquel Ascencio, etc. Granted the jury is still out on some of these guys, but if they had done a couple of these things right, the team would be different. And there'd be some hope.

I know sabrematics aren;t THE answer for all of MLB, but for teams trying to compete in an unfair economic landscape, blaming it on finances is fine but it doesn;t change anything in the Won/Loss column.
