    Re: Ozzie at it again....

You should have heard his pre game comments that were aired on the Score670 at 5 PM. In what has to be quote of the year material Ozzie said about Mariotti "he gonna die a garbage"

It's one of those you had to hear it quotes, but I almost drove off the highway. The whole thing was just a ramble fest. This guy is nutso.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Even Ozzie. I just want the guy to shut the f**k up. he talks way too much. He is a great manager who is doing an excellent job for an excellent group of guys. Why can't he just leave it at that?

BTW, you can ask any Chicagoan the difference between Cub fans and Sox fans. To be politically correct, I would say Cub fans are more white-collar and Sox fans are more blue-collar, although I think you know what I am implying.

I don't have problems with Ozzie's comments. I've always used the name 'Gay' Mariotti when I refer to that S.O.B.

Ozzie just says things that most people are afraid to say. F*** Mariotti!

I definately haven't used that term in a guys night out. Maybe it has something to do with being older and handling myself in a mature manner. I don't know, but I do know it's a horribly disrespectful thing to say to anyone.

I don't care if Ozzie was joking or not....I could do the same thing at work and say I was joking and still be fired. There's zero tolerance when it comes to slurs such as this. Actually being fired would be the BEST thing to happen. If you said that in a corporate environment, better hope a lawsuit doesn't follow it from the person that the commented was directed at.

just a thought......if there is nothing wrong with being gay....then why does everyone throw such a fit when a word assosiated with being gay is used? and it shows no comparison with the "N" word that was a slang that was givin to a race of people that were hunted down robbed of there freedom and treated as animals, so there is no real comparison

                Re: Ozzie at it again....

The thing most of you fail to realize is that baseball isn't a corporate environment. Sure, if you work in an office, calling somebody a quar is bad and will get you in serious trouble. It's different for dudes who have grown up in sports locker rooms around tons of other dudes their whole lives. I'm not saying Guillen is justified in making his comments, merely that I can understand the motivation behind thinking he did nothing wrong (which isn't true).

The thing with Guillen is that he is winning baseball games. Right now, his teams are beating the bloody piss out of the Cardinals. To his employers, that matters more than being politically correct. Now, if his team was losing tons of games, this might get him in trouble.

In life, it's all about measuring what you are producing against how much people tolerate you. Real life example:

Suppose I knew tons of gorgeous women, and I brought one of you out to the bar with all my ho's and I. You happened to get lucky with one of my lady friends. I bring you out to the bar again with some of these broads. You bone another one of them that night. So the next night we go out, you say something totally idiotic, and in a drunken mess, I jokingly (or not?) cockpunch you. Yeah, it probably hurts a lot, but you're likely thinking to yourself, "Well, he's introduced me to these hot broads. I can deal with a cockpunch or 5 if it means I'll be scoring later on".

It's the same thing with Guillen, and yes, winning baseball games is the equivalent to sleeping with girls.

The way I see it, it's simply because it's a deragatory reference. Not really a compliment or a word used to associate.

I'm just not into using slurs to reference people of any race, orientation, religion, belief etc... Maybe it's how I was brought up....I don't know.

True, it's not a corp environment, but merely a simple analogy I used. I wouldn't expect Guillen to be fired for his actions as people in baseball are held to completely different standards. I'd be fired for a comment like this despite being excellent at my job, but Guillen wouldn't be. Yes it is about measuring what you produce against how much people tolerate you.....in baseball. The business world would throw everyone/anyone out despite how good they are for disparaging comments.

Not sure about your example. I'd just slug you for cockpunching me, spill beer on your head as you slump to the floor and walk away.

Now there is one thing I have a problem with Ozzie, and it looks like he's starting to do it, is to backtrack his comments.

Ozzie just needs to stick by his guns and make no further explaination on why he said it. If he's a [beeping] fag then he's a [beeping] fag because Ozzie says so.

Many Chicago sports fans realize that 'Gay' Mariotti is a tool. For his many wasted years as a Chicago Suntimes sports writer he has nothing but negativity to all sports franchises in this city. FOR CHRIST SAKES, he was up-and-down with the Bulls DURING THE CHAMPIONSHIP YEARS! This guy has had a personal vendeda against Jerry Reinsdorf for years and he let's this personal fued cloud his judgement of being a fair sports journalist. This was the same guy last year who predicted the White Sox would win 84 games last year and wouldn't make the playoffs. I had no problem with him making that prediction BUT what I didn't like was his comment about the White Sox will never win a chmapionship with Reinsdorf as it's owner. On what basis? Trust me, I'm no Reinsdorf fan BUT who was the owner of the Bulls during those 6 championships? Give credit where credit is due M.F.! NOW, one of the Chicago organizations he actually likes in the Cubs he's looking to get rid of Dusty Baker. Well...I can't say anything about that because he's always been anit-Dusty. Even the year they went to the playoffs.

Mariotti is so bad he's not even liked among his peers. Any Chicago sports fan who listens to WMVP-ESPN 1000 AM remembers the fued he had with Tony Kornheiser after ESPN 1000 dropped Kornheiser's nationally syndicated show for Mariotti's. Thank God that show didn't last long. He also had a dispute with Woody Paige while both of them worked for the Denver Post. However, they squashed their beef and they are both on Around the Horn.

Going back to Ozzie's comments. Is Ozzie wrong for saying what he said? Yes! Am I wrong to agree with him? No doubt. But when it's about Mariotti, I couldn't agree any more. HE GETS NO RESPECT.

Mariotti is sitting at home right now smokin' a cuban with a big ol' smile on his face. If you want to be pissed at a Chicago journalist, be pissed at Carol Slezak. She's the c*nt (yes I said it) who said to turn off your televisions when respect was to be paid to Pat Tillman before the '04 draft. She felt he was not worthy of such an act. This is just shock journalism, which is all becoming too mainstream lately. Even Rick Telander has dipped into this.
