    Joeboo's All Star Weekend

Well, I figured I'd post this as I'll be attending everything aside from the HR Derby. I took some pictures, but I need to get them uploaded first. Just bought this digital camera so hopefully they turned out good.

I went to the All Star Fanfest from 10am-4pm today. It was great. Any baseball fan who also loves to see baseball history would LOVE this. Negro League area with jersey's of Josh Gibson, Oscar Charleston and many others. HOF area with jersey's, shoe's, glove's, bat's, ball's and other stuff from guys like Ruth, Mays, Ted Williams, Clemente, Jimmie Foxx etc... Just tons of stuff to look at and read.

They also had an auction area. Autographed stuff from Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Honus Wagner and many others. Even seats from Forbes Field and the Polo Grounds were on sale. Bats from today's stars were selling for $300 or so and anything from the past was over $1000.

They also had a merchandise area with baseball cards, posters, paintings, jersey's.....just about anything you'd want to buy. However, the pricetag's were steep. One lifesize, signed painting of Muhammed Ali had a $100,000 pricetag.

There was also an area for kids. Video games, batting cages, pitching cages, fielding area and many other things.

Lots of celebrities as well. I ran into Earl Weaver, Orlando Cepeda, Gary Carter, Bill Mazeroski and a few other people.

Anyhow, there was even more than what the pictures and this brief overview can cover. Just too much to digest. Time to try to upload them. Hope everyone enjoys.

You're not going to the HR Derby? Aw man that'd be the one thing that I'd have to see. I haven't missed watching a HR Derby in 10 years.

Nah.... To be honest, I wasn't that interested in the HR Derby. I wouldn't turn down free tickets, but I wasn't going to pay $150+ to go it.

I went to the HR Derby in 1994 when it was here and it was fun, but it's better on TV. IMO it got a little boring while I was at it.

Since there were so many pictures, I used Snapfish to upload the entire album. Unfortunately that means anyone who wants to view them has to register (although it's free). So here's the link for those interested:

Here's a few that I put on Photobucket:

Future's game and Celebrity softball game today:

Future's game was good. Great to see guys hustling on every single play. They really do play a different brand of baseball.

If anyone watched they would've seen me. The Catcher for the World team hit a HR in the 4th inning that sailed right over my head and landed 1-2 rows behind me in right centerfield.

Softball game was slow and boring for the most part. Winfield did hit a blast that made it to the warning track (HR fences were put in the middle of the outfield so it was a HR, but almost made it out where the real fences are).

Definately some good looking kids from different organizations.

Hope it was fun, joeboo. Great pics! I went to the 1988 All-Star skills competition (I can't remember if they had a HR Derby back then) in Cincinnati but it got rained out. I just got to watch bp. Next night I watched the most boring all-star game ever, but it was in person so I can't complain too much. I think it was a 2-0 or 2-1 final AL. Terry Steinbach hit a 2-run HR that hit off the top of Darryl Strawberry's glove. If I remember right, the fans started the "DARR-YL DARR-YL" chant right after that for a little while.

Joeboo i'm glad that you're having a great time. Hopefully the actuall ASG lives up to expectations when you go there. How is the weather supposed to be on Tuesday? Imagine if there's a rain delay and the folks at PNC play the '79 WS clinching game on the scoreboard

Sorry that rain delay story from a while ago is still on my mind.

                  Not good either day.

Scattered thunderstorms both Monday and Tuesday throughout the day. I don't know what they'll do with the HR Derby if it gets rained out, but my guess is the All Star Game would be pushed back until Wednesday afternoon or maybe Wednesday night.

I'd prefer Wednesday night so I don't have to take a day off work!

Well, I was just offered 2 HR Derby tickets at face value from a guy I work with. $150 per ticket. I'd get 2, one each for my Dad and I, but I don't think I'm going to. Gotta let him know by noon.

Considering the All Star Game was $200 per ticket, my digital camera was $320 and I paid $250 Sunday morning to get my air conditioning fixed (broke on Friday), I think I'm going to pass. Too many expenses within the past week for my liking. If not for my A/C blowing up, I'd probably go. Although I do think I'd rather watch it on TV tonight. IMO it gets pretty boring in person.

Seriously, that was an amazing painting. I'm not all that into art, but this piece was impressive. I wish I could've gotten a picture of it, but they weren't allowing pictures of the paintings.
