it gets pretty boring in person.

See, boring IMO. I knew there wouldn't be that many hit out of PNC Park. In 94 there were some very good players at the Derby - better than they had this year, which I thought was an average group. In 94 Griffey Junior and Frank Thomas put on a show with Big Frank launching one over 500 feet (which no one did tonight). I watched the first round pretty close this year, but that was about it. I can't see paying $150 per ticket to go to that. I just think I'm getting too old for the HR Derby. It's not real exciting anymore to me.

I'm not big into autographs. I know many are, but I'm not big into asking another grown man for his autograph unless it's on the bottom of a check!

I went to the derby tonight and it was absolutely great! I loved every minute of it. When Ryan Howard hit the "Hit it here" sign to win the contest, that was amazing! I only wish that they would have interviewed Jason Bay on field to see the reaction. I wish I could go to the game tomorrow but I am still and law student and not a lawyer - so I need to live within my means. The derby tickets + futures/softball + fanfest tickets were $100 each (for 3rd base side, upper deck), but my wife and I have a 20 game season ticket package.

Glad you had a good time! The rundown for tickets I had (or was offered/tried to get) looked more like this:

          Fanfest: $20 per
          Future/Softball: $45 per
          HR Derby: $150 per
          Game: $200 per

Problem is tickets are in such demand that you really don't have many options. If you didn't have a full season plan, you'd have to hope you could get tickets off of someone else and hope they would let them go at face value.

            Re: Joeboo's All Star Weekend

Well, here goes: All Star Game experience long version.

            - Left work early, picked up my Dad and made our way down to the ballpark. Out of towners were complaining about the parking rates and stating they were being price gouged. Guess what? I live here and had to pay the same $30 or $50 for parking. I parked further away, paid $30 and walked to the ballpark. All roads/areas around the ballpark for a few blocks were closed off. TONS of police, bomb experts and other areas of law enforcement (guys in suits with wires in their ears).

            - First thing I saw was a huge red carpet leading to the Clemente Bridge. Looked cool, but didn't serve much purpose. I guess I was supposed to feel luxurious walking across it. Kind of hard to when the Budweiser Clydsdales are standing there smelling like......well......horses. Those things are HUGE. Anyhow, outside the park looked like Mardi Gras. I'm not kidding. There are a lot of bars and shops outside PNC and everything was packed.

            - Went inside and stopped to eat at one of my favorite places - Manny's BBQ. Manny's BBQ is in centerfield and named after former Pirates Catcher, Manny Sanguillen. Manny was there talking/signing for everyone. That's the first time I've seen him at the ballpark, although I know he's there more often than this.

            - After eating we walked around before heading to our seats. TONS of people. I've never seen PNC Park this packed. Even on sellouts, it's not like this. Must've been all the standing room only tickets sold. Guess who I saw off in a distance........Alyssa Milano. She's really tiny. I've had a thing for her for years, but couldn't get close enough to her. I think she's dating either Brad Penny or Barry Zito? Don't really know.

            - Headed to our seats on the 1B line and took some pictures (I'll give a link to them when I get home from work and get them uploaded). As the game approached, the atmosphere was fantastic. I've never been to a baseball playoff game, but I can imagine it would be like this. Everyone seemed very excited and just couldn't wait for it to start.

            - Jason Bay and Freddy Sanchez got the loudest ovations. Pirates Manager Jim Tracy was cheered, but also booed. I'd say it was about 70% cheers, 30% boos. After that I think Fox went to commercial - we did the Canadian National Anthem. Fox came back and Carrie Underwood did the National Anthem as the jets flew over.

            - Gametime. Bay came out on the field and the entire right field bleachers gave him another standing O. He tipped his cap and continued warming up. I won't get into game specifics as we all saw the same game. I'll just say that it felt like one of the fastest games I've ever been to (although some of the tributes and stuff made it longer than it really was). I looked up at one point and thought "Wow, it's already the 7th inning?!?!".

            - The Clemente tribute was awesome. Ozzie was crying in the dugout as I know Clemente was one of his idol's. Lots of people were tearing up or crying in the stands. It's amazing that this many years after his passing, Clemente still commands that type of reaction.

Anyhow, that's about all I can think of right now. It really is a great experience and despite the high prices of everything, I'd definately go to another All Star Game if given the chance.

30-50 $ to park, are you serious?
You can park right next to the Ballpark in Cincy for $10 and park a block away for 5. Are you saying it is always $30 to 50 dollars to park?

I think it was just for that night. I've parked in-between Heinz and PNC before and it was only $10 or $15 if I remember correctly.

It was only $30-$50 for that night. It's typically $10 for parking around the stadium for Pirate games and $20 for Steeler games.

Stupid FOX had to go to comercial on the Canadian anthem

Do you know who sang it joeboo or was it just some no name? How soaked did you get as it seemed it rained quite a bit at times during the game.

SPTO - The Canadian National Anthem was a band (trumpet, sax etc....). It sounded pretty good.

Actually, it didn't rain that hard. It just sprinkled at times. Must've looked worse on TV than it actually was. The rain we were supposed to get yesterday is hammering us today. It's been raining all day today.

It was like that at Jacobs Field for the All Star game here too.
