10 Best Hitters through All-Star Break

I believe these guys are the 10 best offensive players through the all-star break, based on my All-Base % Stat. They basically get the most done by their own production.
    • (Total Bases + Walks + Steals) / (At Bats + Walks)
    • Qualifyer = (League Leader in AB + League Leader in BB) / 2
    1. .760 - Albert Pujols
    2. .720 - Travis Hafner
    3. .707 - Jim Thome
    4. .702 - Carlos Beltran
    5. .698 - Jermaine Dye
    6. .688 - Jason Giambi
    7. .687 - Manny Ramirez
    8. .668 - David Ortiz
    9. .663 - Lance Berkman
    10. .661 - Vernon Wells
Note: Marcus Thames was a .693, but he appeared at the plate 23 less times than the qualifyer.

Any reason why you chose to divide by at bats + walks instead of just plate appearances?

I'll take OPS myself, to be honest.

Where is Nomar on this list? He leads the NL in batting average .358 I think thats being a good hitter

average only tells part of the story... i mean if you think about it... a guy who gets 50 singles, is probably just as good as a guy who gets 25 doubles.

I'm pretty sure Nomar and Mauer just missed the lists... coming in like 13th or 14th... I know David Wright was up there too... I think he was 11th.

he is reason #1 why fan voting in the all-star game is extremely flawed.

If you're going to include SB, shouldn't you penalize for CS as well? I'm all for new ways to evaluate players statistically but sometimes it seems like you pull these formulas out of a hat.

Seems you also penalize the super utility players as well.

Where would Reed Johnson rank in this?

Would that list change at all if you took steals out?

of course it would... the reason why I put it in there, is because if a player gets a single and steals a base... its just as good as the guy who gets a double and doesn't steal a base.

So it isn't the best "Hitters" per-say... but its the best offensive players.

The reason I said that was because there is really only one base stealer on the list.

edit: And he only has 12.
