Re: 10 Best Hitters through All-Star Break

Well I used your formula except I didn't include stolen bases and the only difference was that Beltran dropped from 4 to 8. But it did change the results slightly.

edit: Manny and Giambi flip flopped spots also.

    Albert Pujols - .7532
    Travis Hafner - .7199
    Jim Thome - .7072
    Jermaine Dye - .6887
    Manny Ramirez - .6871
    Jason Giambi - .6850
    David Ortiz - .6675
    Carlos Beltran - .6667
    Lance Berkman - .6599
    Vernon Wells - .6333

But that still doesn't account for a guy who hits a single and gets caught stealing. Unless a base stealer is stealing bases at about 75% or better, they're hurting their team more than helping.

        Yeah the formula should be
        • (Total Bases + Walks + [Steals - Caught Stealing] ) / (At Bats + Walks)
        • Qualifyer = (League Leader in AB + League Leader in BB) / 2

OK, I've done this one more time using this formula:
          • (Total Bases + Walks + [Steals - Caught Stealing] ) / (At Bats + Walks)
          Albert Pujols - .7597
          Travis Hafner - .7199
          Jim Thome - .7072
          Carlos Beltran - .6932
          Jermaine Dye - .6918
          Jason Giambi - .6881
          Manny Ramirez - .6844
          David Ortiz - .6675
          Lance Berkman - .6599
          Vernon Wells - .6527

I really like this very slightly modified version of Xcell's stat. I think it covers basically everything.

            • Qualifyer = (League Leader in AB + League Leader in BB) / 2

            2. .720 - Travis Hafner
            3. .707 - Jim Thome
            4. .702 - Carlos Beltran
            5. .698 - Jermaine Dye
            6. .688 - Jason Giambi
            7. .687 - Manny Ramirez
            8. .668 - David Ortiz
            9. .663 - Lance Berkman
            10. .661 - Vernon Wells
Note: Marcus Thames was a .693, but he appeared at the plate 23 less times than the qualifyer.

Best hitter dosen't means Sluggers...forget about the Formula thing and go realistic.

            1.Albert Pujols
            2.David Ortiz
            3.David Wright
            4. Jason Giambi
            5.Carlos Beltran
            6.Jim Thome
            7.Derek Jeter
            8.Ichiro Suzuki
            9.Normar Garciaparra
            10.Joe Muerer

This is a more realistic list because show's AVG. Clutch, and always create situations in their At Bats. WHos with me? remember this first half of the season. Becuase if not...A Rod and Manny would be in that list

But something that everyone on the formula list has in common is that they are sluggers who have good on base percentages.

Did the New York Yankees... I will do more teams by request... I only include the 9 players who have the most Plate Appearances (minus Sac Flies and Hit By Pitch).
