    Maybe a few...

But there should be a deal or two in August. Reggie Sanders, for example.

      Not a rumor...

But I wouldn't be surprised if the Padres move Perez to the pen. They had thought about it when he used to pitch for him, and he could take over for Hoffman.

I'm sure this was mentioned but there's a report that Lugo got traded to the Dodgers for some prospects.

BTW The Pirates really had a firesale today. If I were a fan of that franchise i'd sigh then cry.

I don't get that one. Washington has an owner now, the union and the other owners have no say over the team any more.

Re: Official Trade Deadline Thread- Rumors, Transactions and Your Own Crazy Ideas

Man, I just woke up to this ridiculously packed trade deadline. It hasn't been this busy for quite a long time.

Maddux to the Dodgers? I don't know about the Dodgers but gotta give them credit for not giving up. It's gonna be disgusting seeing him in a Dodger uni, but since he's playing in LA, I'm gonna get to see him a few more times. Definitely happy about that. I guess they didn't need Izturis anymore after trading for Betemit, Lugo, and having Kent (DL) and Nomar in the infield.

Mets got Oliver Perez for Xavier Nady. I guess they feel really shaky about Pedro's health. If Perez stays healthy, he's awesome. Great news for a Braves fan! (Sarcasm) Losing Duaner hurts, who's gonna set up for Wagner now?

Braves trade Jorge Sosa. This is party time. I wish we traded for a starter, man. I guess there was nothing out there that caught our eye.

Yankees get Craig Wilson for Chacon. That's a comeup for sure. Adds stability to that lineup, and a good glove.

Tigers show they're serious by adding Casey and sending stuggling Shelton down to the minors. I like that move. While Casey doesn't put up the best numbers, he's still solid and a good influence in that young clubhouse.

The Union always pushes players to sign for the most money, b/c it has a residual effect allowing other players further down the free agent food chain to sign for more money. They want the players to get the most money possible. If someone like Soriano or Carlos Lee were to give a hometown discount and sign for less, it sets the price for the other FA's at a lower mark. While the Union wants them to sign for the most possible, some still sign for less (ie. Andruw/Chipper Jones in ATL).

Are you talking about the same Oliver Perez that has stunk up the joint the past year and a half?

The dude is 9-15 with and ERA of 6.18. He also walks 6.08 per 9 and gives up 9.55 hits per nine.

A team doesn't just give up "awesome" left handed pitching, even if they're the Pirates. The dude is one more bad year away from being done.

What is with the stupid ESPN analysts? Well not all of them, but mainly Steve Phillips and Buster Olney. Both said that Soriano and Tejada were "FOR SURE" getting trade. Even 20 minutes before the trade deadline. As in, "no buts about it". Well that turned out well.

Olney is a disgrace. He kept saying that all these people were going to get traded and whatnot, and none of his insights as they present them as, came true. He is supposed to be an expert and is talking like he was in the room with Jim Bowden while the trade talks were going on.

I just wish that if Olney is gonna make these BOLD predictions, that he atleast look at the right camera.

People are forgetting that Peter Gammons was annually used by teams. They fed him false information to throw a wrench in teams' trade plans. Without him this year, they've had to go to Olney and Phillips. Remember when Soriano was practically traded to the White Sox? There was no rhyme or reason for Soriano to go there - it was merely Ken Williams feeding false info to the deadline reporters.

Exactly, Peter also knew this, he knew that in return for repeating this information, he would also get the most inside info. I heard somewhere, a GM being interviewed on the radio a while back, that unlike other baseball writers who have to troll the phones calling multiple sources, Gammons would recieve phonecalls from GMs and Owners. And there is some thought that Williams run at Soriano was an attempt to make the price too high for the Tigers, really a brilliant move if you ask me.
