Official Trade Deadline Thread- Rumors, Transactions and Your Own Crazy Ideas

With the deadline under 3 weeks away I thought this would be a good time to start discussing any rumors or deals you wish your team would make.

I'll kick this off with a crazy question to my fellow Yankee fans and baseball fans alike:

What are the odds Cashman would hear offers for A-Rod at the deadline? I'm not saying hes having a bad year (65 rbi's and 20+ HR's) but he doesnt seem like he's having fun, the fans have been getting on him a lot, the media has been pretty harsh on him, and his recent comments didnt cast him too favorably with some (about how he's 'probably going to the Hall of Fame')

Anyways if the Yanks took on a large portion of his contract (I think he has like $120 million left), who thinks we could get a big pitcher back for him?

Crazy I know, but I just thought I'd throw that out there to spark up some conversation.

Any rumors anyone's heard from their local papers?

So many different names that could be moved to help shape the second half pennant races.....Will the Marlins deal Dontrelle or Cabrera?...Will the Phillies actually deal Bobby Abreu?...Who will land Alfonso Soriano?...What about Carlos Lee?

July's one of my favorite months simply because of all the trade rumors in Major League Baseball. I'm anxious to see if the Tigers make a deal.

No foundation to these names coming to Toronto they've just been mentioned as being good fits for the team:

John Smoltz to provide veteran leadership in the rotation. Man i'd practically slobber all over a front end rotation of Halladay, Burnett and Smoltz.

The other name being bandied around as being a nice fit to Toronto is Dontrelle Willis.

The biggest name out there is Soriano, and he comes with one big question, IMO...

What team is willing to pay the Nats' price, knowing it could be to simply rent Soriano and have him walk after the season?

When I look at it, it seems like the Angels have the best situation to land Soriano, whether it be near the deadline or in free agency. He could replace Adam Kennedy at 2nd base or Garret Anderson in Left Field...the Angels definitely have something of a Latino atmosphere to their team with Vlad, Colon, K-Rod, etc. that would make Soriano feel comfortable (if I recall one of the reasons Vlad signed with the Angels is because of Arte Moreno), and you KNOW the fans would adore him because of the power he brings to the plate that the Angels are sorely lacking (outside of Vlad).

Of course, the one thing that could hold everything up is Angels GM Bill Stoneman. He seems stubbornly unwilling to part with any of the minor league prospects the Angels have - and who knows, longterm that COULD be good for the Angels. Personally I'd be willing to part with a couple prospects if it meant landing Alfonso Soriano...

Anyway, that's my take on it. I'm not even really an Angels fan, lol, it just seems like I've grown close to the team by playing with them in MVP 05 last year and MLB 06 this year.

Rumor in Philly is that the Phils are ready to let Pat Burrell go for next to nothing if they can crawl out from under his contract. But I would bet that the Phils would need to eat close to half his contract to move him at this point.

Don't forget that Cubs and Jays deal that Blair mentioned a few weeks ago. Even though we have 2 catchers already, I don't want Molina back and Barrett is only 29. Walker would be a great addition.

Forgot about that one, yeah Molina suddenly lost his abilities to catch. I don't know wtf happened to him.

What do you possible have that the Indians would want? We're pretty set besides pitching... and we don't have anyone to replace Peralta with to begin with.

Re: Official Trade Deadline Thread- Rumors, Transactions and Your Own Crazy Ideas

Here in Chicago(south side) there have been two rumors of center fielders coming over to the White Sox.

                        1. One report I read in the Chicago Suntime yesterday where Aaron Rowand of the Phillies would be involved in a trade back to Chicago. As the Phillies fall further out the race they might look to move some guys out of their organization. Abreu is the main player they want to move BUT moving Rowand is kinda questionable. I would love to have Rowand back here in Chicago. He'd be welcomed with open arms. Unfortunatley, they like him in Philadelphia also. I do feel somewhere in the future Rowand will be back in Chicago. However, I feel it won't be this year.

                        2. Radio reports here in Chicago also have the White Sox trying to get Andruw Jones from the Braves. Would be nice BUT I feel that they might be asking for too much for him. Most likely we'd have to give them McCarthy, which I'm still not willing to part with yet. McCarthy is going to be a stud pitcher one day, once a spot opens up in the White Sox rotation. Jones would look nice in the White Sox centerfield. However, I'm not willing to morgage the farm for him.

I now a centerfielder would be a great move BUT they really need bullpen help. Especially, a setup guy for 6-8 innings to get the game to Jenks. I like what I see so far from Riske BUT I'm not comfortable with him.
I have more respect for a man who let's me know where he stands, even if he's wrong. Than the one who comes up like an angel and is nothing but a devil. - Malcolm X

Well the Sox are a mystery but barring any further injuries I would prefer they hold onto Hansen/Delcarmen and stay away from any significant trades. Nixon is in the last year of his contract and its almsot a given he won't be returning, and Gabe is a capable starter, so we'll see what happens there.
