Anyone else think Maddux would be great if the Braves re-acquired him? I'm not talking like, 1995 great, but I definitely think he'd be solid for them.

I think he'd be a lot better with us than he has been with the Cubs.

He would be serviceable and consistent and better than calling up some unknown but i don't know if adding Maddux to our rotation will do any better than calling someone up as far as chemistry goes.

Looks like the main reason Maddux isnt doing well in Chicago is because the team around him sucks. In Atlanta, I'm SURE he'd do better.

As for the Wickman trade, this is great. I don't even know who the hell Max Rodriguez is, and Wickman gives us a legit arm in the bullpen to turn to, even if he's an old man now.

Only thing I would be worried about with Wickman, is that he is changing leagues.

"Stuff" guys can make the league change flawlessly, but Wickman might not be as good.

Pitchers usually struggle more going from the NL to the AL than vice versa.

That would be a legit concern if he was going from the NL to the AL, but going from the AL to the NL is like going from MLB to Triple A. I'm actually surprised the Indians couldn't get more for him since relief pitching is always in demand right now.

You have to remember that the sellers are in the drivers seat on these deals. Not the buyers, and with the number of buyers being higher than the number of sellers. The demand is going to be higher than the supply.
True, but Maddux dictates where he goes, not the Cubs. If he knows that Atlanta is interested he may refuse a trade to any other city. Plus he's been terrible ever since April ended so teams aren't going to give up a whole lot for him. At any rate, he'd be okay in Atlanta as an end of the rotation guy, but not a front of the rotation guy. I bet he could post a 4.50 ERA pitching in Atlanta which isn't too bad if that's all you're expecting.

I would say that that's an overstatement but then I look at the stats and Bronson Arroyo is 3rd in the NL in ERA.

The Padres have shown interest in Adrian Beltre.

If I am Seattle, and I can get something of equal value, whether it be SP, or prospects, I make this deal happen.

Seattle has a bunch of young infielders who can probably fill the void.

A new rumor in the Baltimore Sun is Rodrigo Lopez and a mid-level prospect to the Phillies for Abreu or Burrell. The Sun says money is the hangup, while Jim Duquette said on a radio station it was the no-trade clause.

I swear, if Peter Angelos f*cks this up because of money concerns, I'm done with baseball.

I think teams will give up more than you think. He hasn't been as bad as everybody thinks he has been he just hasn't got any run support.

He is also one of the few solid starters on the market this year, and Jim Hendry will not give him away. He is a very competent GM come trade deadline time. Now if he could only become one during the offseason.

Why are the orioles buyers instead of sellers?

Guess they are battling for that all important fourth place spot in the East.

Like I said before I'm still not ready to give up on Beltre. I just think he's too young and since he's moved to the 2 hole he's hit better. With that said, the contract is KILLER. I'd be happy if he stayed but I'd wouldn't mind if he left either. The really need to get rid of Sexson's contract somehow but he's really the only power hitter we have besides Ibanez, and Ibanez power numbers are just coming around this year.

GM Bavasi is absolutely horrible! I hated it when we signed him and I hate it even more after 3(?) years. Bavasi and Hargrove both need to go IMO and they need to try and get a more fiery, discipline oriented coach...like Lou was. Bavasi is just trying to save his *** by making a big move in hopes that the M's magically turn it around. This is not a playoff team at all and I'm shocked at how close we are to first.
