A lot of this stuff is speculation. I'd probably venture to say that about 70 percent of these rumors won't even make it to reality. I can see why the Phillies would trade for a starting pitcher. Have you looked at their rotation? Outside of Brett Myers and SOMETIMES Corry Liddle they have no one in their rotation who's reliable. Now Garcia nor Vazquez hasn't pitched to their potential BUT they are 8+ game winners.

Heilman has not been that good lately and they have a guy, Henry Owens, whos minor league number are just sick. I could Heilman going...Sanchez goes nowhere.

Majewski and Bray will be good relievers, and the Reds bullpen has already cost the team multiple games this year.
LOL!!! A good trade? You honestly think that the Reds couldn't of gotten ALOT more for Lopez and Kearns (two solid hitters in their prime...both are only 26 years old....Lopez can play 2B /SS and Kearns can play CF)? All they got was a talented reliever (Bray) and a above-average reliever who will probably turn into a below average in the GABP. The others players aren't even worth mentioning (Thompson is only in single-A, Clayton is bad, and Harris is nothing more then a utility infielder). This was desperation move by the Reds to try to fix their bad bullpen.

Not likely. The Cubs will be sellers, not buyers at the deadline.

Jim Bowden said on BBT last night that 3 teams call him on a daily basis about Soriano, he did not say who the teams are but we can assume two of them are the Yankees and Angels. He also mentioned possibly trying to sign Soriano and trade Jose Guillen, so we may not Soriano go anywhere. The ball is certainly in Bowdens court right now with that one.

            Other rumors:
The Tigers are said to be interested in Pirates OF Jeremy Burnitz

The White Sox are interested in re-acquiring CF Aaron Rowand, Chone Figgans has also been mentioned

A rumored deal between the Angels and Blue Jays from a month ago that would send 2B Adam Kennedy to the Jays for Eric Hinske has resurfaced with the Jays sending a minor leaguer as well.

Because they want a left-handed bat with some power. Curtis Granderson is the only natural left-handed hitter in the Tigers lineup. Bobby Abreu, Cliff Floyd and possibly Shawn Green (if the D'backs will eat a large part of his salary) are also targets for the Tigers.

If any of the rumors are true, you'd be surprised at how many teams have supposedly asked the Pirates for Burnitz (ie: Yankees, Tigers, Mets, Astros).

He'll provide some power off the bench against RH pitching. He just can't hit LH'ers at all.

Well, if they're interested in him just for bench purposes, then I can understand it. Starting however, he doesn't have near enough power to make up for his bad average and IMO isn't worth a spot in anyone's lineup outside of Kansas City.

I'm pretty sure Burnitz would only be a bench guy.

He shouldn't even start for the Pirates right now. However, to get his trade value up, they have to trot him out there and hope he catches a hot streak. Of course he won't command much in a trade anyhow (low level minor leaguer player IMO).

If a team is looking for a high average from a LF, the Twins are rumored to be trading Shannon Stewart. He would make a great leadoff hitter and hits around .300. He just doesn't fit anywhere right now with the Twins.

Seeing how bad the middle of the infield can be at times for the Jays I'd do this deal in a heartbeat.

Im hoping the Marlins reach into the well of pitching prospects and trade some for a decent outfielder.

                              That's a ridiculous idea.

I can understand that from an outside prospective, this looks like a bad trade for the Reds. Hell, a lot of Reds fans don't like it. But, I can tell you, if they had a decent bullpen they would be leading the central right now. Their bullpen has blown so many late inning leads the past few weeks, its ridiculous. It was highlighted by blowing a 9th inning and 11th inning lead in a loss to Milwaukee a few weeks ago. Not only blowing leads, but they've also help put games out of reach for the Reds, changing a 2 run deficit to a 5 run deficit. Its been terrible to watch, and I think with the additon of Majewski, Bray, and Guardado the Reds now have a solid bullpen.

As for the players lost, I can tell you that both Jerry Narron and Wayne Krivsky were both upset with Lopez's defense this year, and didn't really think of him as a future shortstop for the Reds. He's definitely below average in fielding, and turns less than 50% of his double plays, which is 2nd worst in the majors. They also questioned his work ethic.

And as for Kearns, I think he's developing into a nice player, but he strikes out too much on a team that already has Adam Dunn. He's on pace for 160+ strikeouts this year. And, lets not forget that this time last year he had to be shipped back down to AAA because he wasn't playing so well. Kearns could be an all-star in the future, but he's definitely not right now.

Only time will tell how this trade works out. I just know that right now, our bullpen is much, much stronger than it was.....and it should allow the Reds to maintain leads and hang around in games better.
