Re: Official Trade Deadline Thread- Rumors, Transactions and Your Own Crazy Ideas

    New rumors for July 19th:

Tejada = The Astros, Reds, and Angels have all been rumored as of late to be interested.

Ryan Shealy COL = Plenty of teams interested, but the Royals have shown the most interest.

Pat Burrell and Bobby Abreu = Baltimore has shown interest in both.

Giants are interested in Jose Vidro.

And last, teams that were interested in Reggie Sanders weeks ago, have all cooled off.

Red Sox interested in Mark Redman

Abreu to Baltimore probably is going to happen. I highly, highly doubt Tejada is gone unless the Angels offer Wood, Santana, and one of Kotchman/Morales. I do think Shealy could wind up here though.

Re: Official Trade Deadline Thread- Rumors, Transactions and Your Own Crazy Ideas

The Mariners have lost 7 of their last 10 games and have fallen 5 games behind the A's in the AL West, by the end of next week they may decide that they are sellers instead of buyers.

Jim Bowden has said that if there was a front runner for Soriano he would have already been traded. If the Nationals can trade Jose Guillen and Livan Hernandez i think they will try and re-sign Soriano themselves.

The Phillies have told everyone that Bobby Abreu, Pat Burrell and Tom Gordon are available. The problem they are going to have in moving any of these players is that they have also said that whoever gets them has to assume all of the player's contract. As far as Abreu and Burrell are concerned--if the Phillies won't eat part of their salaries, neither one will be going anywhere until at least the offseason.

A very good player who has just become available is Toronto's Shea Hillenbrand. After a major fallout between Hillenbrand and the Jays front office you have to believe Hillenbrand can be had for next to nothing, though teams may wait 10 days for Shea to become a free agent and not have to give the Jays anything. Hillenbrand who can play 1B/3B and DH is having a pretty solid season hitting .301 with 12 HR's and 39 RBI's. For all the teams looking to land Craig Wilson Hillenbrand could be a pretty good alternative.

And speaking of Craig Wilson...the Pirates are said to have a very steep price tag for Wilson yet the team has barely played him of late. Wilson has started only 4 games in the month of july and has only 23 AB's since june 28th. Maybe they don't really want to trade him and hope if he doesn't play other teams will forget about him...

Why Ozzie Guillen is NOT a GM:

"Guillen doesn't expect the White Sox to make a major trade, but hopes the Tigers deal for Washington OF Alfonso Soriano. "They would have to give up (Justin) Verlander or (Joel) Zumaya," Guillen said. "I'd rather see Soriano at the plate than Verlander or Zumaya on the mound." "

The Tigers would never trade Zumaya or Verlander, no matter who was offered. And the Nat's would be idiots to ask for these guys.

I still see the Tigers going after Soriano, but they won't give up too much for him, unless he agrees to an extension at the time of the deal.

Read in the NY Daily News today that the Yankees like Wilson and want to make a deal. However, Pirates GM Dave Littlefield hates dealing with the Yanks and insists on making Jeromy Burnitz and his salary a part of the package. Brian Cashman doesn't to seem to be too anxious to blink.

Bob Wickman, closer for the Indians, has been traded to the Braves for minor leaguer Max Ramirez.

And I believe that was the last of what remained from the Richie Sexson-to-the-Brewers trade for Cleveland

I'd imagine Fernando Cabrera will close.

Read on another message board that the Braves are talking to the Cubs about reaquiring Greg Maddux. The guy says that a local radio station of his is reporting that the Braves would trade Jorge Sosa to the Cubs and in return the Braves would get Maddux. The Cubs would also pick up a portion of Maddux's salary. I know Maddux isn't near what he used to be, but I think the Braves could benefit from having him on the team.

So, if this is true, the Cubs are just trying to get rid of Maddux. There is no other reason to want Sosa.

The Cubs aren't going to trade Maddux for Jorge Sosa.

Maddux is one of the few legitimite starters on the market this year. They aren't just going to jump on the first offer thrown there way. Especially for a guy like Sosa.

You have to remember that the sellers are in the drivers seat on these deals. Not the buyers, and with the number of buyers being higher than the number of sellers. The demand is going to be higher than the supply.

Yeah I agree. I highly, highly doubt that only Maddux and Sosa would be involved. The Braves would have to give up something more than Sosa to get Maddux.

But with this said, Maddux has been really bad for the Cubs lately and he is making $9 million this year, so who knows.

also things can change so quick in MLB especially for a team that has caught fire like the Braves have because before the all star break there were some rumors that Wilson Betemit was on the block. I think it's just people wanting to report stuff and hopes it becomes true so they can have more credibility as far as a member of the press goes.
