JJ Hardy is out for the season. Koskie's out for at least a month, possibly the season. And Rickie Weeks has just been put on the DL. Bell will play 3B, Hall SS, and Cirillo & Graffinino will split 2B.

Buster Olney now thinks that Abreu will get moved by the deadline and the suitors right now are the Mets, Yankees, and Red Sox. I'm guessing the Sox are only involved to drive up the asking price for Abreu to keep him out of Yankees pinstripes.Comment

Buster Olney really seems to be enjoying his increase in face time now that Gammons is out.
I don't really trust much of what he says. Odds are one big name gets moved and that would be it.“Nobody in the history of the game tried what I just tried. We’re talking about on the biggest stage, in New York, playing out of position and asked to hit fourth for the New York Yankees. I mean, that’s never been done.” - Sheffield on SheffieldComment

I agree. He seems to think that Tejada, Abreu, Soriano, and Zito will all get moved. And then there was his little Miguel Cabrera to the Red Sox thing last week. If all of those big names move (excluding Cabrera), I'll be surprised.Comment

Apparently this is from ESPN Insider (which I don't have) but was reported on Rotoworld:
ESPN's Jayson Stark believes the Yankees will acquire Bobby Abreu and Cory Lidle from the Phillies for 2005 first-round pick C.J. Henry and right-hander Steven White.Last edited by bravosfan; 07-30-2006, 12:54 AM.Comment

Buster Onley mentioned earlier today the Red Sox were trying to work out a 4-team deal...
I'm thinking it'll include the Twins and they'll send SP Kyle Lohse to the Red Sox. (Let's see if I'm right, I really have a good feeling though).Colorado Avalanche (NHL)

ESPN's Jayson Stark believes the Yankees will acquire Bobby Abreu and Cory Lidle from the Phillies for 2005 first-round pick C.J. Henry and right-hander Steven White.
The Phillies could likely get better prospects for Lidle alone, but that so clearly isn't the point. Abreu's no-trade clause may or may not be a stumbling block. The Yankees are apparently prepared to pick up his $16 million option for 2008 in order to keep him happy, though it's not guaranteed that Abreu wouldn't want more to sign off on the deal. In taking Abreu's contract, the Yankees would be employing about $100 million more in talent than any other team in baseball. If they can win under those circumstances, well, Joe Torre really must be a genius. Jul. 30 - 1:49 am et

Re: Official Trade Deadline Thread- Rumors, Transactions and Your Own Crazy Ideas
2 years ago if someone told me the Yankees would be getting Abreu I'd be jumping with joy. Right now, I dont know what it is but I'm just not that excited. He's an OBP machine like Giambi without the power and with Jeter like speed but I just dont see him putting us over the top like a big time pitcher would.
If the story is true, at least we're giving up guys that wouldntve been of much use anyways. Henry wasnt going to play for a good 7-8 years with Jeter at short and I dont know much about White other than he could be a solid MLB pitcher in a few years.

I'm gonna love it when Abreu loafs on a fly ball that drops into RF.Comment
