I can't fathom why Houston would make that deal. If it's legit, the Orioles would be stupid not to do it, and I've been against them dealing Tejada. Oswalt for Tejada straight up is a good deal, which is why I can't believe that rumor is legit.

Re: Official Trade Deadline Thread- Rumors, Transactions and Your Own Crazy Ideas
I have to laugh at any person who thinks the Orioles will make a Tejada trade by tomorrow. Everybody knows that organization operates at a glacial pace, and will not make any deal unless they are utterly blown away. Hell, it looks like the Astros just offered Oswalt, and they still wouldn't accept (they should have on the spot if true). The organization is an absolute disgrace and they have no chance of winning with that f'n piece of crap Peter Angelos in charge.
Nothing further should ever be discussed about them.Comment

Rumor has it...
-The Marlins made an offer for Alfonso Soriano. Yusmeiro Petit, Renyal Pinto, and Jason Vargas.
-Mets, Rangers, Red Sox, have all shown interest in Jason Schmidt. It would be a month rental, as the FA to be said he wants to finish his career in Seattle.
-Brad Wilkerson and Rod Barajas for Brad Lidge, Morgan Ensberg, and Fernando Nieve. Rumor has it the Rangers have to throw in another solid part for this deal to go through.
-Beliard to the Cardinals for Hector Luna and other stuff.
-Maddux to the Dodgers for two triple A players. One a pitcher one a position player.
-Mariners are still looking around for parts.Comment

Re: Official Trade Deadline Thread- Rumors, Transactions and Your Own Crazy Ideas
It was going to be a blockbuster – Orioles shortstop Miguel Tejada for Astros right-hander Roy Oswalt, shortstop Adam Everett and a third player.
The Astros believed that such a deal was close Friday night, but barring a last-minute shift, Oswalt won't be going anywhere, and Tejada might not be, either.
The Rangers continue to pursue Tejada, according to a major-league official, but the Astros and Angels no longer are engaging in active discussions with the Orioles.
The Astros, major-league sources say, are steamed that Orioles owner Peter Angelos apparently quashed the original Oswalt-Tejada deal as well as several revised proposals.
But there may have been another issue.
The Astros, one major-league executive says, feared that the Orioles would flip Oswalt, their most prized acquisition for Tejada, to Houston's cross-state rival, the Texas Rangers.
A National League executive disputes that theory, saying the Astros "knew all along" that the Orioles were trying to flip Oswalt. The executive says that the Orioles indiscreetly shopped all of the players they were offered to other clubs, calling it "no way to do business."
The Orioles apparently intended to trade Oswalt to the Rangers for third baseman Hank Blalock, Class AAA shortstop Joaquin Arias and one of the Rangers' top three pitching prospects – left-hander John Danks, right-hander Thomas Diamond or right-hander Edison Volquez.
The Orioles also would have ended up with two other players from the Astros – Everett and possibly third baseman Morgan Ensberg – effectively making the deal a 5-for-1 for Tejada. As for Tejada, the Orioles still have a chance to trade him to the Rangers for a similar package, a major-league official says. But that might be their only chance to complete a Tejada blockbuster.
The Angels, who offered the Orioles a package of right-hander Ervin Santana and Class AAA shortstop Erick Aybar for Tejada, also have pulled out of the Tejada discussions, the official says.
The Dodgers are not actively pursuing Tejada, other sources say.Comment

Wow...if the Orioles could get...
Hank Blalock, Adam Everett, AAA SS Joaquin Arias (21), a top pitching prospect, and another player, possibly Morgan Ensberg...
That would be impressive.Comment

Brad Lidge, with his damaged psyche, is garbage now. I wouldn't trust him with any big game situation ever again.
This, coming from a Braves fan. Shocking.Comment

Re: Official Trade Deadline Thread- Rumors, Transactions and Your Own Crazy Ideas
The New York Mets are engaged in serious talks for two superb starting pitchers who carry the potential to stamp them as a World Series favorite -- Giants right-hander Jason Schmidt and, in something of a shocker, the Astros' Roy Oswalt -- league sources told SI.com.
Mets general manager Omar Minaya was debating late Sunday night whether to surrender one of the biggest pieces of the Mets' future to acquire either Schmidt or Oswalt and greatly enhance his team's immediate chances. The asking price for both Schmidt and Oswalt is believed to revolve around multi-talented young outfielder Lastings Milledge.Comment
