A little off topic, but wasn't there suppose to be a Trade Deadline show on ESPN today? I know there is one @ 2PM EST on ESPNEWS, but I thought there was one on ESPN @ 1 PM EST.

As much as I like Hansen you don't know what your getting but thats the kind of chance you take. On the other hand Andruw Jones is arguably the best defensive OF in baseball. He can hit for power and drive in runs. The only knock would be his avg.
They're saying in Boston that the Red Sox offered Hansen, Crisp and another prospect. The Braves countered that they wanted Lester to be that 3rd prospect, which the Red Sox turned down. I assume they're still talking about it, but I'm not sure there is a match here. I'm not sure they have people in their system that are in between their initial offer and Lester, that the Braves would be interested in.

Someone fill me in. Are Lester and Hansen that good?
Jones' defense has been on the decline the past few years. Yes his defense is still very good but he's no longer the best in centerfield. He'd be switching leagues and his power numbers would likely take a hit. Plus he isn't the type of hitter the Red Sox covet.

You should know how good Lester is, since he beat the White Sox this year and was pretty impressive in doing so. Right now he looks like an Andy Pettite clone. His control is the only thing keeping him from being a consistern #2/3 starter. Hansen was drafted last year and has made progress already developing a decent change-up and a surprisingly good 2-seamer. He's not the dominant reliever the Sox envisioned when they drafted him right now, but he looks like he's on his way. Just needs to work on his command. His walk totals are very good but he often gets too much of the plate which is why the hits allowed are as high as they are.

Crisp is also a really nice player. He's having a bit of a lost season because of all the time he missed but the Sox would be foolish to just give up on him. His range in center is very good, his arm below average, but he's not going to hurt you out there. He has not been a downgrade from Johnny Damon defensively speaking. Offensively he's just never looked comfortable at the plate. I don't know what can be expected of him down the stretch, but I'm confident he can have a nice bounce-back year in 2007.

Bottom line, the Sox would be giving up way too much in such a deal. Especially considering Vernon Wells may be on the market this winter and they'd rather go after a guy like him than Jones.

If this is true, it doesn't look like the Andruw to the Red Sox deal is going to happen.

At this point I think the Red Sox have inquired about every big name out there. I really don't see anything big happening unless they can get a 3rd team involved.

Interesting... Andruw is a free agent after next season, and I doubt the Braves can re-sign him (no hometown discount this time). He also becomes a 10-5 player later this year, I believe. Still don't think I'd do that deal, but it could make the run-up to the deadline a little more interesting if the Sox or another team get desperate...

The only possible way the Braves would do that deal is if were getting Lester. We need some pitching prospects and Lester has proven he can pitch in the majors. Losing Andruw would hurt though, looks like this deal wont happen though.

Yeah, that 10K game against Atlanta really made them want him. He isn't going anywhere.

Jayson Stark is reporting the Nationals have 2 deals they would accept right now, 1 from a AL team and 1 from a NL team. Stark said the Twins are said to be the AL team.

What I don't understand is, why the White Sox have not been in any discussions. Yes, I know that KW said there would be no more deals, but if the Yankees could give up lint from Georgies pockets to get Abreu, why could we not have tried to get him? I would have easily given up Vasquez, Fields, Haeger, Tracey, Anderson, Gload, or any of our other prospects.

Abreu is still a great defender (possibly better than Anderson), and his on-base percentage only makes us a better team.

Yet nothing.. We are going through the biggest slump of the decade and we decide to sit put. I'm not liking this at all

From what I've heard on ESPN, the Dodgers/Marlins might be the NL teams.
