Agree Whole-heartedly...I work at the Olive Garden & it would be like me walking in there & them saying were gonna put you here today & I say No, I'm working right here cause I like it here...Thats not gonna fly too well...Athletes are too spoiled nowadays...They think cause they All-Stars they can call the shots

Also, never use the "at your job" analogy when discussing athletes and position changes. "At my job" and probably at yours too, if your boss told you to "move your desk" or do anything else you don't want to do and you refuse to do it they will find someone who is willing to do it and show you the door.

"At my job" i have worked 5 different positions because i was asked to, a couple of them i did not want to. But i could either work and get paid or refuse and go home, and i don't know about you but unlike Gary Sheffield i'm not getting paid $13.million dollars so i don't have the luxury of refusing many things.

I said you wouldn't be happy about it.

The discussion here is that Sheffield wouldn't WANT to move to another position. Obviously, if he doesn't then he'd get traded or won't be re-signed.

But, every example you guys gave points to you not being totally happy about the change. You do it because you respect your employer and most importantly you want to keep your job. Still doesn't mean you'll like it.

Sheff told the media today, he understands why they got Abreu because he can't help the Yankees now and that he has no problem with DHing OR playing 1b. He plans on working with Mattingly at 1b.

If you're going to learn how to play the position there is certainly no better to teach you how than Don Mattingly.

He was also 24 and about 50 lbs lighter. He hasnt played there since 1993, 13 years ago.

Are you seriously going to count that? Jose Canseco pitched a few innings, so did Wade Boggs, would we consider them to be options to pitch?

And Sheffield will not move to First Base even if it means the Yankees would pick up his option.

When the Marlins traded Sheffield to the Dodgers in 1998 he spent the entire season whining about having to play LF, After the '98 season he told the Dodgers that if he did not play RF the next season then they would have to trade him. This went back and fourth for a couple of months and then the Dodgers asked Raul Mondesi to move from RF to LF, Mondesi wasn't happy in Left and would be traded after the '99 season.

Sheffield is not a team first kind of guy and while he is a very athletic player and could easily make the transisition from the OF to 1B he will probably balk at the idea of moving. Someone will sign him over the winter, but he may have to open up to the idea of playing different position be it the OF, 1B or DH.

Saying he'll do it for a month (or less, depending on when he comes back) is not the same as saying he will move there permanently. Sheffield did not say anything about playing there beyond the remainder of this season.

Apparently i was 100% RIGHT about Sheffield not wanting to play First Base. Sheffield told USA Today that "This will not work, this will not work at all". "I don't want to play First Base for a year for them. I will not do that"
