Icon Batting vs. No-icon Batting

Which do you prefer: the icon batting such as World Series Baseball or the non-icon timed swing batting of High Heat?
And while we're on the subject, which do you prefer: one swing button such as High Heat or contact button and power button, such as WSB? Personally, I prefer non-icon High Heat hitting simply because I feel it adds a touch of realism to it. I mean, when a pitch is coming in at 97 mph, do real players actually see the ball so well that they can aim for the bottom of the ball? No. I feel that timed hitting adds a bit of depth to the simulation aspect of the game. Real players don't have icons on the ball so why should we if we desire a simulation?
I also prefer the conventional one-button swing simply because when there is more than one button to hit, we gamers usually tend to hit the power button all the time, as it usually results in more hits. Plus, if you don't hit it as often, then you will have Barry Bonds batting .370 with 4 homeruns and 16 RBI's. One-button swinging is better for creating realistic stats.

I like HH too, but I don't mind cursor hitting as long as there are a realistic amount of walks etc.

I like both, but I prefer cursor-based for multiplayer because it makes it more of a contest of skill (instead of just a matter of having the best-rated players).

I agree 100% Padgoi. Like Heelfan, I can stomach cursor based hitting if done right.

I'll tell you precisely what I prefer... WSB 2k1's near-perfection on all batting/pitching matters.

That game really made you earn home runs... it was so satisfying perfectly timing a swing and nailing it within the dead-center of the icon. The only thing that needed work in 2k1 with regards to pitching and batting was the variety of batted balls (too many opposite field HRs, for example).

Of course, once you get out of pitching and batting, the game had MANY other issues, to put it mildly.

There's a difference? Don't both video game baseball and real-life baseball require some form of hand-eye coordination?

ASB is icon, but you can turn it off if you like.

THANKS Heel Fan,......one more question!

Does this site get Demos of the baseball games coming out?

If OS does, can you guys please tell me what are the possible team names and cities to name a created team.

Also, what are the attributes applied to creating players?

The producer of the game was on here last year answering questions, maybe he will come back this year. Not sure about the cities, but the attributes question was asked in the Q&A that was sent to acclaim. Keep checking back for it, not sure when it will be done.

Snowmizer, I absolutely agree with you. Home Run King (which is really just an improved version of WSB 2K1) has the best pitcher-batter interface of any game out there (IMO). You have to be accurate with your batting, or you'll hit a weak pop-up, and you have to be accurate with your pitches or you'll walk the bases loaded. My only complaint with the batting is that you can "track" the pitch as the ball is released (by moving the batting cursor slightly as the ball is released). I really think this could have been a contender if Sega would have fixed some of the other flaws.

From what I've read, HH and MVP are non-cursor based, and WSB and ASB have the option to turn on non-cursor based batting. My question is which games will produce the most realistic results using non-cursor based batting?
