Rowand is a large part of the Phillies' team too, man.
Not really, he's an average, disposable player who holds a fraction of the importance to the team as Utley and Howard.

I still laugh whenever Major League Baseball players collide like this. They can hit 40 homers, but they can't call for a pop fly, something 8 year old kids can do. I especially love it when you see the replay, and neither of the fielders is even talking or yelling. I guess they are too big headed to call for the ball.

Average and disposable, huh. Rowand's one of the few decent RH bats we have in the lineup who isn't Burrell. With Johnny Drama out of the lineup, we're going to get killed by LHP. Further, our corner defense now suffers a big hit because instead of Victorino in RF, we're now faced to use Dellucci there and Burrell on the other side. And further, our bench is now weakened because Victorino/Dellucci/Burrell was our only bat off the bench who wasn't a backup catcher. And further, Rowand's one of the few true character guys on the team.

Average and disposable....I don't think so.

Well, in defense of Utley, he's supposed to persue the ball until called off. Usually, the centerfielder has an easier play since he's coming in. In this case, Utley was going back while Rowand was coming in. Rowand didn't come hard, sorta stopped, looked at Utley and then inexplicably charged in at the last second for no apparant reason other than to actually cause a collision.

Yes. Average (.262, 12, 47, 18 BB, 76 K) and disposable. He plays a decent enough outfield (not bad, but not stellar either) which is fine. But I'm not sure what you mean about character?

Because he throws his body around into walls and star players? Because he wears a trucker hat and drives a monster truck?

Because he speaks his mind and is a fan favorite?

Keep in mind the White Sox won the World Series last year (one he stunk up) and they tried to trade him at the deadline. Then went ahead and traded him in the offseason. So, I'm not sure where his value/indisposability lies.

Just becasue there's no one readily available doesn't mean he's not replaceable. It just means he's the best you've got, and what you've got is a very average, reckless centerfielder that has occasional pop and doesn't hit for a very good average.
