I hope Delgado and Green bat back to back in the lineup as that would bring back great memories for me. I so want to see two great Blue Jays having playoff success!

Well then as much as I can't agree with people that Nady is a good player, this trade just doesn't make sense.

If you have Nady on your team, why get rid of him, start a rookie, and then trade for Green?

I just don't see how that makes sense in terms of talent and finance.

Not that I agree with the quick trade of Nady, but that was done because earlier in the day, our best reliever(Duaner Sanchez) was injured and lost for the season....so we picked up Roberto Hernandez to replace him(I happen to think Hernandez is a very good reliever) and got Oliver Perez(who some people think has the stuff to be an excellent starter) to boot.
Personally, I would have kept Nady and looked to within the orginazation for relief help, but I would say that Green is a better option for us than Michael Tucker, Ricky Ledee or Eli Merrero...I'd say he even has a better upside than Nady so it's a good deal for us IMO.

          Very good point.

I don't know if I agree that Green has more upside than Nady (Green is 33, Nady 27), but they are very identicle in terms of production. Green, however, does get on-base more which is why he might actually work out for the Mets. Forget him getting 7 HR and 20 RBI in the month of September. He might net himself 20 Runs.

who cares, I liie the deal, they gave up nothing for Green...I think he will feed off the rest of the players on the mets, and play rest of the year better then he has.

Nice trade Green has always been one of my favorite players. Although he's lost considerable amount of power since his Jays days, he can still hit for a nice average and get on base.

The only real problem is they took next year of his contract too, but since Floyd is a free agent i'd guess he'd just take his spot if Lastings is given the starting role.

                          Re: Green now a Met..

I heard a bit of an interview with Keith Law last night and he was saying that Green's bat has slowed down tremendously. It appears Green's body is fighting against him as he has not only lost power but bat speed and defensive ability in the field.

Law further added that Green is a liability now and that the Mets would have to basically put in a defensive replacement late in games to cover up for Green's deficiences.

Has it gotten THAT bad for Shawn Green? I remember when he was younger and he had one of the easiest swings in MLB. He was also quite a capable OF as well. I always thought he'd win a GG in the OF one day.

                            Endy Chavez OPS: .768
                            Shawn Green OPS: .778

Shawn Green is actually a worse player than Endy Chavez if you also add the fact that Chavez plays some good D. What exactly does this trade accomplish?

Gives the Mets a veteran major league outfielder who bats left handed and has had some production this year. Arizona is also going to pick up around half of his remaining contract so it was a no-brainer for the Mets. Everything they have done this season was looking ahead for the playoffs and they think they have the solid veteran team that can go far in the playoffs. Mota looked good in his one inning last night as well so maybe they will still have that good right hander out of the bullpen.
