Re: Never Played World Series But Have One Big Question?
I think its better than ASB but thats just me. You just see the pitch and move the cursor the best you can to hit. You can make the cursor small, medium or large and make the speed of the pitch slower or faster. The strike zone is huge so it kinda blows. I'm not a fan of cursor based hitting but if I had to choose a game with it it would be WSB. Others will disagree. -
Re: Never Played World Series But Have One Big Question?
I like ASB's cursor better because it's more useful for situational hitting.
Amazing how all of these new guys are coming out of nowhere complaining about pitch speed all of the sudden... must be the 20th "I'm too slow to hit in ASB" post we've had in the past couple of days after having zero for the past year.Comment

Re: Never Played World Series But Have One Big Question?
The WSB cursor is basically a watered-down version of ASB's cursor, which is good and bad, IMHO.
Bad: There isn't much variety between batters, nor is there a "sweet spot" like in ASB. You also can't try to pull or push the ball like in ASB.
Good: It doesn't treat the game like cricket. ASB apparently thought the game was played with a flat triangular-shaped paddle.“In my lifetime, we've gone from Eisenhower to George W. Bush. We've gone from John F. Kennedy to Al Gore. If this is evolution, I believe that in twelve years, we'll be voting for plants.” - Lewis BlackComment

Bats are tapered... just like the ASB hitting icon. Go figure.Comment

Re: Never Played World Series But Have One Big Question?
Not to that extent.
Plus, you can't exactly tilt your bat "up" or "down"“In my lifetime, we've gone from Eisenhower to George W. Bush. We've gone from John F. Kennedy to Al Gore. If this is evolution, I believe that in twelve years, we'll be voting for plants.” - Lewis BlackComment

Re: Never Played World Series But Have One Big Question?
No, but with swing mechanics you can try to either hit the ball in the air or on the ground... same concept. There's more involved in trying to hit a sac fly in order to score a runner... there's more to it than just swinging under the ball.
Maybe an egg-shaped cursor is more accurate to you, or more enjoyable, or whatever... perhaps the no-cursor method of HH appeals to you more... this is my impression of me, not caring. Pretty good, huh? I bet you didn't even know I did impressions.Comment

Re: Never Played World Series But Have One Big Question?
In Real Baseball, bats are a foot thick. Better hitters are allowed to use bigger bats. Before the pitch, hitters are allowed to switch their normal bats out for special "power bats" which are shaped like triangles instead of normal bats. Once the bat is chosen, hitters choose where to swing. The pitch and the swing are then performed simultaneously to prevent cheaters from changing their desired swing location or otherwise reacting to a pitch.
And just like the "5-second rule" that allows you to eat food that hasn't been on the floor very long, there is a rule in Real Baseball that allows you to hit the ball if it hasn't been in the catcher's glove very long.
Don't know where egg-shaped cursors came from. Obviously a perversion of the true sport.Comment

Re: Never Played World Series But Have One Big Question?
Zing! Wow, that was almost impressive... almost.
FatPitcher, the board authority on baseball, is right.... hitters in the majors just swing at the ball, they in no way attempt to direct the location of the ball. All of the sac flies, hit and runs, etc are pure coincidence, which helps to add to the mystique of baseball. An amazing sport, which consists of pure luck, played by people with not-so-amazing skills. If life were as scripted as the hitting in WSB, it wouldn't be worth living.Comment

Re: Never Played World Series But Have One Big Question?
Wow...amazing how all these baseball posts turn into more of the same...lol
I was going to reply to Guru's post after mine, but then I saw that FatPitcher made a reply that was about as ludicrous as I've seen in a while.....
Besides, I thought that HH was the one that was scripted, not WSB“In my lifetime, we've gone from Eisenhower to George W. Bush. We've gone from John F. Kennedy to Al Gore. If this is evolution, I believe that in twelve years, we'll be voting for plants.” - Lewis BlackComment

Re: Never Played World Series But Have One Big Question?
Well, what fatpitcher said has some merit. Yes, professional players do TRY and go the other way, hit the ball in the air, etc. for situational hitting but its probably the hardest thing about hitting - trust me. ASB makes that aspect of the game too easy. Before the pitcher even starts his windup you can set the cursor where you like and tilt or aim it anyway you want - doesn't happen. You can have a mindset when you enter tha box about what you wanna do but carrying it out the way ASB lets you isn't a good representation. In my opinion, the best way to do this (with or without a cursor) is by just disciplining yourself to stay back and let the ball get deep in the hitting zone. If you are looking to get get the ball in the air just try and get under it...thats what you are thinking at the plate.Comment

Re: Never Played World Series But Have One Big Question?
Don't get me wrong, I totally agree with what Diablo said, but I think FatPitcher's intent was to get totally sarcastic about the ASB interface and came off (to me) sounding rather dumb.
And I'm no expert at batting (I was a pitcher), but doesn't how you approach pulling a ball/lifting a pitch, etc, change depending on the pitch type and location? I mean, it seems like hitting a fly ball on a low slider and a high fastball would take different mechanics. It's not like you can set up in the box in "pull and lift" mode (sounds like an electric shaver system....)“In my lifetime, we've gone from Eisenhower to George W. Bush. We've gone from John F. Kennedy to Al Gore. If this is evolution, I believe that in twelve years, we'll be voting for plants.” - Lewis BlackComment

Re: Never Played World Series But Have One Big Question?
If you're trying to hit a ball in the air, would you really swing at a low, outside slider? Not me.Comment
