I honestly think Robinson Cano is one of the best pure hitters today

Do you see what this guy is doing this year? He pretty much gets at least one hit every game, his batting average (though less games) is currently higher than Jeter and Mauer, he has more homers than Jeter, he has 79 RBI's (which is on pace for over 100 had he played the whole year), his fielding has gotten better (yes, I know, this is about hitting), etc. I can see him winning the batting average crown in the very near future if he keeps working like he does. He's a natural talent.

I agree with the assessment that he is a great natural talent. Whether he is one of the best in the game remains to be seen, we'll see what he does in a full season of work.

It sucks that he'll never get the recognition he deserves by playing on the yankees.

By "pure hitter" do you mean one who can swing the stick but has no concept of plate discipline? Because if so, I agree.

That's the potential scary thing about Cano.

It's scary because he could either:

        a) Learn some discipline at the plate and become a dangerous hitter. OR

        b) Fall apart as most unpatient hitters do.

Cano has gotten better this year. Hopefully, he continues to improve.

Hm...I'd like to see what he does on an average lineup. The Yanks lineup right now is probably one of the best alltime especially when you have Cano hitting 9th.

I could see him being a very dangerous hitter if he gets some more discipline.

yeah that is true. That is just like who ever hit third in the Giants would put up all star type numbers. But I do think the kid can hit.

Agreed, He is a good pure hitter but needs more discipline at the plate.

For someone who has terrible plate disciple, it's pretty impressive he's only struck out 50 times in 115 games. At the same time, he has just eighteen walks.

One of my buddies (who's a Red Sox fan) said he was listening to someone on ESPN analyze Cano at the plate and they said he has the best hand/eye coordination in the league after Ichiro.

He'll just continue to get better IMO, he improved by leaps and bounds just from last year. I love when he goes w. the pitch and lines a double down the LF line. Seems like he does it every day. If he was healthy all year he had a great chance of hitting 50 doubles this year.

Good thing we didn't pull the trigger on that trade w. the D'Backs two years ago!

Not to be too much of a homer, but I think Freddy Sanchez is one of the best pure hitters in the game today. It's amazing to watch this guy as he's one of those guys that seems to be able to get the barrel of the bat on the ball and make good contact no matter where it's pitched.

Sanchez leads MLB in BA and has only K'd 52 times in 556 AB's. One complaint I have is that he only has 29 BB's as well. In other words, he's never met a pitch he didn't like, but somehow makes very good contact the majority of the time.

Regarding Cano - from what I've seen, he seems to be a nearly identical player to Sanchez, but with more power.

Its funny. I remember hearing they had no minor league talent left about the same time he came up. I guess that report was off. The kid can play.

Cano is now eligible for the batting title. He should finish second in the AL, right now he's batting .343 and Mauer has a nice cushion at .349.

Great year for the young kid though.

I'd like to see what Cano could do outside the Yankee's lineup. It's a lot easier to hit behind those guys than it would be in, say, the Royals lineup.

Eh, it's not like people would pitch around him. He only has 18 walks all year, he swings at anything in the strike zone. I can't imagine him dipping much.

He needs 14 PA over the last 5 games to officially qualify. Should be easy enough.

The said on Baseball Tonight last night that he qualified in the AB that he homered in.
