Not sure if this was posted already. I thought it was somewhat funny:

Oh my, I was already dying when I read 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM.

Also, I'm thinking the two sides will ask for a 72-hour extension from Bud Selig and the Seibu Lions to finalize the deal.

Well apparently they've struck a deal.

Apparently they're landing at 5pm in Boston. Doug Mirabelli is meeting them with a police escort.

52 million over 6 years with incentives to reach 60.

I'm really surprised. Guess the Red Sox playing hardball paid off for them.

I'm thinking Boras feels a bit like Dr. Cox from Scrubs when he actually shows his sensitive side. Let the other teams start rolling in and feel like they can one-up him.

Appears to be six years deal that could be worth 60 million

If true, great job by the Red Sox front office here.

In the end I'm guessing it came down to Matsuzaka not wanting to go back to Japan. Boras will be able to say, hey I tried but he really didn't have a leg to stand on in these negotiations.

"Matsuzaka has a 108-60 career record in Japan with a 2.95 ERA and 1,355 strikeouts in 204 games. He was MVP of the inaugural World Baseball Classic last March, won by Japan."

Can't wait to to see this kid in action. On some level, I want him to succeed, but then again that could hinder our success.

Looks like the Red Sox pwned Boras here, what a tremendous contract. No more than $10M AAV for Matsuzaka. That's incredible. Theo and Lucchino must have laid the smackdown..

like others have been saying, I'm guessing it mostly came down to the fact that D-Mat just didn't want to go back to Japan and made sure this contract got done even if it was for less money.

This'll be even funnier if D-Mat flames out in Beantown.
