Does this pave the way for ARod to be traded to the Cubs? Even if he wants to save face, he's gotta be salivating at the thought of playing 81 games in Wrigley field...

Perfect place for him, he won't have to worry about failing in the playoffs for the Cubs.

Now I'm hearing that Bruce Bochy is in the mix. Apparently Hendry has been in love with him for some time.

Yeah, he must obsess over west coast baseball. I have a bad feeling about how this is going to turn out.

Bochy wouldn't be too bad. I mean he's done a great job over the years with the Padres.

I'd rather have Bochy than Brenley, whom I hear spent the entire day with Hendry. How much of that time was spent trying to figure out how to open a bottle of soda is debatable.

I really hope Girardi or Pinella get picked, but I could also see them going with someone from their minor league system. One plus though is if Brenley doesnt get the job, he may not want to come back to the booth.

Looks like it's probably gonna be Pinella. I thought for sure this job would be Girardi's when it opened up.

                        Re: Pinella to the Cubs?

Brenly is a million times more brutal in the booth...not sure I want him to manage because of that though.
I actually thought Brenly did a pretty good job in the booth this year. He's no Steve Stone, but I thought he was massively improved from last year, and made a lot of good points.

Regarding the manager search, I'm not sure what to think. Piniella does have more of a proven track record than Girardi, so I guess I'd be ok with hiring him. I'd certainly rather have him than Bochy, whose appeal I've never quite understood. Yeah, he has his Padres perennially in the playoff hunt, but he never has great teams...just average-to-above-average teams.

I dunno. It probably really doesn't matter, in the long run. With almost no starting pitching and no farm system, the Cubs probably won't be going anywhere for awhile, no matter who's managing.

Well lets see how bad they really want him. I can almost bet that they will low ball him. They know Bochy will do the job for cheap. This is the embarrassing life of a Cub fan.

In my heart of hearts I just think Girardi should be the guy. But he'll ruffle too many feathers in the organization and the Trib don't play that. They'll pay Pinella, and he'll keep quiet. They already ran everyone out of town that voiced any dissent.

I don't trust anything Hendry does, why he's still even employed is beyond me.

Hendry seems like the ultimate company guy to me. Thats why he's still got his job.

Aside from not firing Baker, what has Hendry ever done wrong? I've seen enough complaining, but I don't remember complaints when he brought in Alou, Remlinger, traded **** for Ramirez and Lofton, brought in Karros and Grudz, got Maddux back, traded Choi for Lee, etc.

Yes, he's dumped prospects, traded Sosa, Cruz, and Patterson when they had no value, but those are gambles that just didn't work out. I think Hendry has done an adequate job over the years.

And, in the end, how many GMs are loved by their fans? I can hardly think of one, and plus, where are the Cubs supposed to look for a replacement? If most employed GMs suck, where do we turn to?
